Stopped by Folly Brewing earlier to try some of the new beers released for their 3rd anniversary, with Shattered Fragments Sumac Sour Saison - a collab with Ottawa’s Bar Lupulus - being a definite highlight. Je pense que la description commerciale résume bien la chose: "Cette IPA sure est brassée avec du lactose, tangerine, ananas et fruits de la passion: Trouble, une bière style « jus fraîchement pressé »". J’aurais seulement enlevé une petite touche de sucré, le reste était parfait. This weekend’s release of the 2017 edition of Bellwoods Motley Cru felt like a good excuse to pull a couple of the older versions out of the cellar, which made for a very enjoyable Sunday evening. This year’s beer doesn’t seem to be meant for aging, but with crisp & bright notes of passionfruit, green grape & key lime, it’s a solid refresher out of the gate. The ‘16 is a bit more muted, but with notable lychee and gooseberry character. The ‘15 is the most complex of the bunch, with notes of dark cherry, leather, persimmon, cranberry, and a hint of balsamic.
