Protest magazine assignment, 2016
I have always been fascinated by the infrastructure that spontaneously sprouts around protests in Warsaw – flag sellers, tube sellers, badge sellers. They appear out of thin air with an assortment tailored to the occasion and just as they appear – they disappear. They will be at a protest of a rival faction with an assortment tailored to the occasion in a few days.
I see some kind of metaphor in this. It was good to sift through an archive of old commissioned works for something that did not fit into the brief, the publication, client expectations, or was simply so long ago that it is already an archival document in itself.
