Cardi B announced today that she is starting a line of dolls. There are two doll options. One is a set that has one doll and two outfits for $35. The other is $99 and has two dolls with gold-plated accessories. The newly formed company that is making them says "Real Women Are dolls are affordable, high quality, inclusive and fun, giving girls tangible examples of the women they look up to and glimpses of the women they can become." So a few things don't make sense to me about these being marketed as a doll line for kids. Why are the first dolls only available to order for 72 hours? This isn't a 72-hour pre-order where regular sales will begin later. The website states that these are only for sale for 72 hours. Kids usually don't have much extra money around and this is way too early in the year for kids to ask Santa for this. Second, how is $99 affordable for that demographic? Third, are gold-plated accessories really appropriate for that demographic? Lastly, she has stated that her music isn't for kids so it seems a little odd to release a doll line for kids.
