Worse for the Wear
Pairing: Pregnant!Reader, Sam, Dean Words: 1,543
You were running through the woods. You didn’t know what from, you couldn’t see it, but you could hear it. You didn’t know if there was one, or many. But you ran.
It was fast, faster then you, you were sure whatever it was, it was playing with you. Toying, like a cat with a mouse. Having you run one way, then making you change directions. You held your stomach as best you could as you ran. You shouldn’t be running, not like this, not now. It hurt. Tears streamed down your face as you ran, and suddenly you were changing directions again.
You wanted to collapse. You were exhausted, and in pain. Ignoring the warm liquid running down your legs, you kept running as fast as you could. You chanced a glance behind you, and slammed right into a tree. You were done for.
“What the hell?”
You looked up, It wasn’t a tree, it was a damn giant. “You need to run.” You told him, looking back the way you can come, terrified.
“I ain’t running anywhere, sweetheart.” You heard the voice again. You turned realizing it wasn’t the giant. “What the hell are you doing way out here anyways?”
“Camping… well… we were camping. One last camping trip before…”
His green eyes watched you, raising an eyebrow for you to finish.
“Uh… Dean.” He looked at the giant. “I think her water broke… We need to get her out of here. Now.”
“Son of a bitch.” Dean growled. “Get her up and moving, Sammy. I don’t know how a damn woman in labor out ran this thing, but I ain’t waiting to find out.”
“I’m Sam. That’s my brother Dean. Are you okay?” Sam asked as he helped you up.
“I think so… I’m… I’m not due for another 3 weeks. She’s early. Fuck.”
“Hey, it’s okay. We’ll get you out of here. This is what we do. Trust us, alright? Can you trust us?” Something about him had you nod yes. “Come on. Let’s get you moving again.” He put an arm around you, and helped you move as quick as you could while there was quiet around. “How long have you been running?”
You shook your head. “I don’t know. I just knew I couldn’t stop.”
“Were there others? You said ’we’ before.”
You nodded. “There were… Not-” You swallowed. “Not anymore.” You groaned as a contraction hit.
“Shit. We need to move. Quick as you can, sweetheart.” Dean said as he moved past to lead the way.
Every once in a while, you would hear it off in the distance somewhere behind you, and you would whimper. Doing everything you could to ignore the contractions and keep moving. “I know you want to stop, but we need to get you out of here before nightfall. We’re done if we’re stuck out here in the dark. And you don’t want to have this baby out here. Not with this thing hunting you.”
You nodded at him as he half carried you along. “Dean… It sounds like it’s toying with us.” Sam noticed.
“Because it is. I don’t know why…” He turned. “Anything special about you, sweetheart? Other then being a two for one meal?”
“Dean!” Dean just shrugged.
“No. I don’t think so. Normal girl, normal pregnancy, normal boyfriend.. or..” you sighed. “He was.” They looked at you. “He left the tent when he heard the sounds and screams of our friends. He was gone, blood everywhere. I- I just ran.”
As the sun started to set, you came to an empty gravel lot. Empty, except for one car. Sam pulled open the back driver side door as he got to it. “Come on, get in.”
“WOAH! What the hell are you doing there, Sammy?”
“Getting her in the damn car, Dean.”
“No. Uh uh.” He shook his head. “She’s going to get birth… stuff all over the damn place. No.”
“We can’t just leave her here, Dean!”
“Son of a bitch.” He grumbled and headed for the trunk. “At least put a damn blanket down.” He said as he tossed one to Sam.
Sam rolled his eyes and laid out the blanket. “Alright, get in. We’ll get you to a hospital.” You grabbed a hold of his forearm, squeezing as you doubled over and screamed, hit with another contraction, a strong one. “Uh… I’ll sit in the uh… the back with you.” You nodded. When you finally let go, he got you in and shut the door. Quickly he moved to the passenger side and got in next to you.
Dean shook his head “I’m sorry about this, Baby. I’ll make it up to you.” He gave the roof a pat before getting in and starting her up.
Sam shifted you so your back was against his chest. Your hand fisted into his plaid shirt over your shoulder as another contraction hit. “Fuck.” You ground out.
Sam was unsure what to do. So he rubbed your stomach. When he felt it tighten again a bit later, his eyes went wide. “Uh… how long can labor last… Cuz I’m not sure how long this kid is going to wait, Dean.”
“Hours.” You answered through ground teeth. “Sometimes days. Depends.”
“How long you think yours will last?” Dean asked, glancing in the rear view as he sped towards the closest town.
“I don’t fucking know.” You grumbled through the contraction. Taking a deep breath, you relaxed as it finished. “Sorry. Walking helps bring on labor and helps it along. I just ran for god knows how long in the woods.”
“Fuck.” Dean growled.
About an hour later, the car screeched to a stop outside the hospital. Sam got out and moved around to help you out. Dean rooted through a box for something. “Here, Sammy.” He said handing him a card of some kind.
Sam just took it and got you over to one of the waiting wheel chairs by the door. “Lets get you inside.” He gave you a small smile. You smiled over at Dean as he watched Sam wheel you into the hospital.
At the front desk, Sam flashed what looked like a badge, or ID of some kind. He explained that he and his partner got a call about animal attacks, and found you running for your life and in labor in the woods. He had no idea how long you were running and you might be dehydrated. He explained they just tried to get you there as quick as possible. You were holding onto Sam's hand, and refusing to let go. You were scared, and if he left, you’d be alone.
“I need to go.” He said after he knelt down. “I need to deal with what was chasing you. It’s what I do, remember? You need to trust me. You’ll be okay.”
“Be careful. Please. Come back and see us.” You teared up, clinging to his hand.
He nodded. “I promise. Now go have your daughter.”
As he stood up, the nurse moved behind your wheel chair and started to push you towards the maternity ward. Sam’s hand slipped out of yours and he gave you a smile before turning to walk away. A tear ran down your cheek. You barely knew him, hell you didn’t know him at all, but you felt like you would never see him again, and it made you sad. As he walked out the hospital door, you turned back forward, sniffed, and let out a sigh. Baby time.
By the next morning, your daughter was born. And man was she beautiful. She looked so much like her dad. You cried as you nursed her. She’d never know him. As you watched her, you realized you had never agreed on a name. You looked down at that beautiful face, and instantly figured it out. Once she was asleep, and back in her little hospital bed, you started to fill out the paper work. Smiling as you wrote her name.
The next morning there was a knock on your door. Your eyes cracked open, and there he stood. A smile on his face, his brother at his side. “Sam.” You smiled at him. “I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.” You moved to sit up.
“I promised, didn’t I. Besides. We brought something for your little girl. It’s a little worse for wear, but… You’ll like it.”
You raised your eyebrows, and the brothers stepped aside. Your eyes went wide, and you instantly started to cry. “Mike…” You breathed out. “I thought… How?”
He came in and wrapped you up in his arms. “They found me. Got me out. Told me they got you out, too.” He let go and looked down. “Shit. I missed it.” He sighed, but picked her up. “She’s beautiful… Did you name her yet?”
You nodded. “Mike, this is your daughter, Samantha. Sammy for short.” You smiled over at Sam.
“Perfect.” He smiled and kissed you. “It’s perfect.”
Sam smiled, happy to have reunited you. Others had died, but this, this made it worth it to him. He felt a nudge to his side and glanced over at his brother who had a huge grin on his face. He couldn’t help but laugh.
