Elayne was calling bullshit on all of this. She knew the reason her family was pushing her into marriage. It was all because of her declaration that she made a few weeks ago. She was planning to go to NYU and become a lawyer. Take corrupt politicians like her parents down so they can never cause harm every again. Of course, they had taken a giant offense to her plans and now, she was getting married to a Scottish boy from a family friend. Apparently, they believed she would settle into life as a trophy wife and not attempt to become a lawyer, to protect her new groom. They would be surely mistaken about that though.
Elayne had found her future husband in the corner of the garden, smoking. She nodded along to his words before holding out her hand. “Give me one, I need it.” She huffed, the bright smile and kind pleasantries shared earlier melting away. “My father told me it was unladylike to smoke so...if you don’t reveal my secret, I won’t reveal yours, my dear.” She hummed.
