Thinking about Flint again. I feel like on the nights before he left to look for Claus, he'd still tuck little Lucas into bed. Each and every time he'd promise he'd be home before Lucas even knew he left. That never happened, though. Obviously it didn't. Still, even though those moments hurt, I think Lucas looks back on them with a kind of fondness because those were some of the last times he could still see his dad as a protector. Someone who would fight the monsters who were hiding behind corners or lurking under his bed. Someone who would shield him and his brother from the world at all costs. Those moments were some of the last times he still got to be a child. Those moments reminded him that he was still loved.
