ok but hindi lyrics from the 70s really are this & im losing sleep over them
ये राँझा की बातें, ये मजनू के किस्से
अलग तो नहीं हैं मेरी दास्तां से
( tales of romeo- juliet,
fables of heer-ranjha
how are they any different
from the tales
of my own life?)

Meena Kumari in a colored still from "Sanjh Aur Savera" (1964).
"Sanjh Aur Savera" / 1964 / Meena Kumari
There will be blood, his eyes tell us.
How much thought went into Bunty’s imagining of Nihal Singh for Gang? Plenty if you go by these photos. About Nihal: we hoped for a crisis of conscience that never happened. As such, we don’t believe in him, we never really fear him; and because we don’t fear him we come to pity his naive ambitions to become the next petty drug kingpin of Mumbai. Lean, taut one-liners were a win. Actually, this was narco-content at its best. His best, actually.
If you watched the film closely, you see actually see one of these photos framed and hung on the wall behind Jackie when he’s going off about joining the dark side. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but it’s there. Now, that’s what makes for a true, diehard #KGFan.
The film is a definite must watch if you are in the mood for some old-testament justice. Wayyyy better than Kaante as it features standout performances from KG and Nana Patekar. It doesn’t take much time to take off, and when it does, it’s truly sucks you into the brutal underworld pinnings of Bombay all wrapped up with a climax that is nothing short of iconic.
