This is my second (half-finished) animation I made in mid-November 2023.
I left "Sweet Little Bumblebee" unfinished because the animation file got corrupted.
Luckily, I was able to recover the file, but I lost all the other frames. *I had downloaded the frames before it happened.
This IS my very first animation, which I made back in early September 2023.
I made "Red Flags" in a week: I had a problem with Medibang and had to redo the half of it in Ibis Paint...
I had uploaded it to my YouTube channel in this time, but I deleted it very soon (because I was thinking of starting a separate channel just for animations...)
Sometimes I just want someone to talk about animated movies with ya know? Like when I say I'm a huge Disney fan I mean I fucking love their 2D animation. Basically anything pre 2002 tbh. I have no beef with anyone who is just a Disney fan of the modern stuff or just big Park fanatics or anything. It's just when I say I love Disney what I really mean is the animation man.
I don't even mean exclusively Disney. My appreciation for 2D animation knows no bounds. I love me some Don Bluth, Dreamworks at it's peak, the old Silly Symothonies and Merry Melodies. Hell I love weirder or less known stuff, the Russian 1964 'Thumbelina' and 1959 'Soon There Will Rain', 1983's 'Rock & Rule', the 1975 'Hans Christian Anderson the Little Mermaid', 'Felidae'.
I don't even draw the line at strictly "good" animation. I watched the heck out of the direct to video Goodtimes Animations growing up and the British Channel 4 Jetlag movies. Knock off's of Disney movies mostly, with the odd outlier. But man even they had certain charms, especially Jetlag which used Japanese animators and you can see the slight anime influence and talent even when they were clearly made for cheap! Even stuff that was made for tv, 'The Scarecrow', 'The Adventures of Quasimodo', 'Rover Dangerfield' a weird and frabkly bad movie that I will watch over and over because it has the most beautifully animated woman with an incredible voice actress that was a huge childhood crush for me.
I wanna vent with someone just as upset with the loss of 2D animation and the travesty it really was. I mean specifically in movies. I know it still exsists in terms of tv, anime and some games etc. But I mean full length features.
I feel so bitter towards 3D animation. For a long time I hated it. Because I felt it robbed me of my precious 2D. I was never a big Pixar fan outside of the Toy Story movies and I always made sure to distinguish between that and Disney because to me they were seperate. I still think that but at the same time I now have to distinguish between Disney AND Disney because I DON'T love the modern stuff. Even the stuff that everyone does think of good modern Disney like Tangled.
I have come to terms with the fact that Tangled is not a bad movie. It's a good movie actually. But I could never love it. Because it's just not as timeless. It looks good but it's not Art to me. Of course this is subjective to me. But that's what I mean when I really sometimes want to talk with someone who gets it.
Like I said for a long time I really disliked any 3D animtion on principle. But I realise there are some great ones I love. I love Antz, Storks and Megamind. I think because I think 3D animation just works better as comedies frankly. Even Spiderverse and Puss In Boots that I think look great I think work so well for me because they're veey funny and in Spidervese case its a Superhero movie that lends great to animation. 3D animation is great for those.
BUT I wish everyday that I live in a Universe where we didn't have to give uo 2D animation features because of it. Around the early 200s we actually got some examples of 2D movies using 3D parts, Anastasia, Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado. It wasn't perfect then but maybe it COULD have been. One day. If they'd kept trying. I want to live in the world where both types of movie was continued to be made and thrive and have different styles and heck audiences.
But we live in a capialist society 3D is cheaper. End of story. Sadly I have to live vicariously through watching the 2D movies I've already seen and discovering new ones (to me). I love finding an old animated feature (lots of foreign ones Ive never seen) and even old cartoon shorts are great. Or reading Art books about how old movies got made or specific artists worked. Its obviously great to see how good they are from back then its just sad to know we stopped now. Heck with AI we're even more screwed than I ever imagined.
Guess I'm just feeling nostalgic (and a bit bitter). The Cup Head Show is great modern comfort show and I've just started playing 'Bye Sweet Carole' (Very Bluth inspired). So at least I can still get my fix slightly. Still I just wish it had gone different. I also know anime is still going strong but I miss having Western 2D thriving as well. They both have very different and strong charms.
I wanted to remake an animation meme thing I made back in like 2018ish? 2019? one of those idk
why cant I put 2 videos????
I guess this will due (ToT)
so silly
