I like the idea of Gyaru fem!Okuyasu. One, because it’s a fun and kinda crass girl subculture I think would fit her vibe. But for another… I can’t stop thinking about how different it would be, to be a girl with those scars. Even a sporty, tough girl would have a really hard time. So I think gyaru is her excuse to cake on a lot of makeup to try to hide them as much as possible. You can still kinda tell… but not as much.
Then the first time Josuke’s hair gets really, irrevocably messed up in front of her, to try to help her friend feel better, Oku washes her makeup off. Your greatest fear, my greatest fear. We’re both being seen at our worst. And Josuke is so shocked and staring at her. Again, the scars weren’t invisible under makeup, but you could never tell the full extent. Then after a tick, Josuke exclaims, “You look so badass!”
This is the moment where, little by little, Oku is able to be less afraid of letting her face show. And maybe she slowly starts to realize she doesn’t need all the distracting trinkets, or the big hair, or the crazy clothes (maybe she clung to them the same way I did to elaborate eye makeup in HS… that magazine advice, give them something else to look at, and they wont see your blemishes.) Until by the end of high school Oku has gone from gyaru to butch 🥰
