Dear Polo,

I cannot believe that you are gone.

 I called your number twice today, just to hear your voice.  I don’t know why I always expect you to pick up. You won’t. Not anymore. Every day when I wake up I have this strange feeling that this is a nightmare. I was so used to having you here with me and I took you for granted. I’m so sorry if I ever made you feel as though you weren’t enough. You deserved so much better.  

I did not always deserve your love, to have someone like you loving me. I know you didn’t always believe in yourself, and sometimes I was too selfish to reassure you. What I should have told you back then was that you have a beautiful soul. I should have said that you were more than enough, and that no matter what the future could hold, I’d be by your side. Even if it was just as friends. But I haven’t been a good friend either. I was too selfish to help you while you were going through hell, and I will never forgive myself for that. I wasn’t here for you, and you didn’t hesitate to jump into the swimming pool to save me.

I never told you, but it wasn’t the first time you were saving me. You saved me so many times when we were together.  I loved you. I genuinely did. You will always be my first love, the first boy who made me feel special, the first one who understood me and made me laugh when I was sad, who made me smile whenever I was tired of being the trophy my parents liked to show off.

I miss you. I will always miss you.  Your name is carved in my heart forever, and I will always remember our first date, our first kiss, or how we used to talk for hours without running out of things to say. I will never forget this, I will never forget you.

With all that had been happening at school, the countless people they had lost or almost lost, it all was finally taking a toll on Maddy. There were plenty of people that she could stand to lose, plenty of people she disliked or didn’t trust, but Polo could never be one of them. One look into his blue eyes and Maddy was convinced of anything in the world. Sighing as she spoke she shook her head, reaching for his hand. “Just... swear that you’ll stay with me tonight.” 

She didn’t know how not to come off to clingy, especially when she was never sure what was happening with him and Cayetana or even with him and Carla. Maybe Maddy always would be second fiddle to one of those girls. No matter what, she had promised herself to stay by his side despite the rumors around campus. Maddy didn’t live in a fancy house like the one he was used to. Her family lived modestly. Unlike some people at Las Encinas, Maddy didn’t pretend to be something she wasn’t. Still with the thought in mind that Polo would be with her maybe they both could keep each other safe or give each other some kind of solace. “Tell me that you’re not going to leave.” 

Maddy stopped mid peck with a smile hinting on her lips. Knowing that she had been showing a bit of desperation at seeing her boyfriend she stopped, knowing she liked seeing how upset she could make him at times. “That someone better be the only person that’s eager to see you,” she joked knowing that there was no way that at the moment anyone else could even fit into Puck’s schedule. Kissing him again she pressed him against a locker, her strength no actual match to his. “Or are you just saying that because you can’t handle the heat, Noah.” She used his name with a sing song tone, a bit different than any way someone else would say it. Hands going to his chest she stopped before searching for his eyes. “Am I seeing you later tonight?”

They did not each other very well. Only through Christian. Of course, Carla knew all about his scandalous affair with Marina. Who did not? Many believed that this was the reason for the young woman’s death but Carla knew better. Well, in some ways, it was. If Marina had not told Nano to steal the fucking watches... She would still be alive. But he was not the one who had done the deed, Polo was. Carla had helped him cover up his tracks and had dragged Christian along. Now... He was in Switzerland, severely injured. The marquesita knew it was her father’s doing, his way of making sure no one would ever talk about this doomed night.

However, some people were still looking for answers. Among them, Nano, recently released from jail. He had snuck in a party but fortunately, had not crossed Guzman’s path. Yet.  ❝  You shouldn’t be here. ❞  She tilted her head on one side, taking a careful step forward.  ❝  This club has a very strict policy about fights. ❞   

    ❝  Polo.  ❞  They had not talked for a very long time. It felt strange to be in the same room as him once again, especially after everything that had happened. The last time they had faced each other was when she had lied, told the jury that she had made up the whole story. 

Everything had gone wrong since that day. Her father had come back into her life and messed up everything even more. He was the main reason why she needed drugs. He was the reason she could have died of an overdose. However thanks to Polo, she was fine. If he had not been here... Well, Carla did not want to think about what could have happened.   ❝  Can we talk? ❞ It had been so long, and the truth was she longed to talk to someone she trusted.
