Read this fic about the Time War in which the Time War as I always imagined it (so not Moffat's time war sorry dude that was a shit depiction - that was 'just' the horror of war) is actually ninety-eight percent done justice and it's from 2012 and WOW - that's a different flavour - I can taste the first few series and its implications so clearly - its implications of scale and pure unadulterated horror that are nigh unfathomable.
And I didn't understand 80% of the references but I am told by the commenters that it's an unbelievably accurate and elegant bridging between classic and modern Who.
And the Moment and Time Lock are not just genocide. They are genocide to the power of genocide and quite like - really very quite like - the Nightmare Child - the horror of permanent destruction of time person by person and down to the last man - the Doctor. Even I, who does not know much about classic was going: nooooooooooo on the inside.
I DID realise through reading the FANFIC that Ten was kinda a fuckin DICK!! And selfish and annoyingly! aloof (and still admittedly half-broken). So understandably so? Guess I only saw the understandable parts back in the day. Maybe the written format made it more obvious (because no charm offensive from Tennant) but wow?? Becomes only more obvious with Martha of course.
But really quite....alien.
