Sup Pearl I actually have a question how did you and Marina get the inspiration for the song into the light when agent 8 escaped from the metro it felt like a super different here you sing a song that well relaxing not what I’m saying if it’s bad it was super beautiful. nah, i totally get it. it was an entirely different approach to our usual, but so many people vibed with it.
the inspiration was a mixture of Marina's motivation to help out Eight, how happy she was when they got out with our help, and how much closer I was able to get to Marina when I learned she was an octoling.
it all hit really close to home for her, and it sorta opened my eyes a bit too, learning about the both of 'em, what it was like down there...
then, Into the Light was born. a song with a gentle rhythm based on the shackles being broken from an oppressed society, with people who cared on the surface waiting with open arms 🔥

the death metal stuff was like, when I figured my voice wasn't built for much else. it was sorta destructive, y'know? I was like, "what other genres could I do, realistically?" but then Rina came along. I vibed with her music so hard, I was like, "I gotta do something with this!"
I do really like exploring different genres though. back when we were doin' the news, we tried a bunch. we did hip-hop, techno, a mix of those two, sometimes we did pop, and then Into the Light was it's own whole thing. but yea, that's where the transition was mostly. we did rock recently, so I hope we can cover even more!
Hi, Marina! I'm a big fan of you and Pearl's music! You have a beautiful yet strong singing voice! I have two questions for you but before I ask them I just wanted to say that I remember watching the live version of "Nasty Majesty" and you were getting all feisty and sassy with it. You better go head with your bad self! My first question is…where have you been hiding that sass? My second question is where did you learn how to sing?

While we were workshopping the choreography for Nasty Majesty ("choreography" is used very loosely for us) I started doing those "sassy" moves partially as a joke, Pearl and I always goof around when we work. But then she said... "Yo, that's actually really good for this song, you should actually incorporate that." and there it was!
Pearl had really allowed me to feel a lot more free and open up to the world. She did everything with this energy that lacked any kind of embarrassment, as long as she was having a good time, she didn't care how anyone else saw her. I was able to adopt that too, and it helped me come out of my shell so much more. I'm a whole new person because of her, compared to who I was when I first arrived up to the surface 💖✨
As for your second question, I had always just practiced. I remember my mother being a very good singer, the very little bits I remember about her... The most prominent memory I have of her is her singing me to sleep. I still remember the melody of her lullaby...
I suppose my singing voice came genetically 💙 and, a bit of improvement from Pearl's vocal teacher.
