Odysseus has two hands, but one is glued so iron tight to Penelope’s it feels like their very bones have fused together, while the other one playfully brushes against Diomedes’s fingertips or the sensitive skin of his inner wrist. Coy and inviting while never threading their crooked, calloused fingers together, forever pulling Diomedes along to chase a dream to be held by this devastating man with lovely eyes that never look at him, too busy admiring the smile lines that crease either side of his wife's mouth. He yearns to be cherished the same way Penelope is. It’s a dream that is never quite fulfilled, a dream that always leaves Diomedes hungry, desperate for more, for anything. And so Diomedes chases and chases, because he knows that if he didn’t keep his hand outstretched and didn’t keep trying to thread their fingers together, Odysseus would slip away, an ocean of distance found in the way he’ll bring that hand of his up to gently tuck Penelope’s hair behind her ear as he leans in to kiss her.
