Chrono opened the door, and Shigaraki slunk in immediately. Overhaul was inside, sitting expectedly on the couch. Mimic sat on the arm of the couch, counting bills as he usually did when he was trying to intimidate. Look, we have money, you piece of shit. You should be grateful weāre sitting with you. We donāt need you.
She knew they were waiting for her to follow suit after Shigaraki, and in the back of her mind, Isane knew she should, but at that moment she also was very aware that none of them would come after her if she just⦠didnāt.
Isane kept walking.
āNakamoto?ā Shigaraki asked sharply, half-turned back toward the door. She stopped, just out of sight of the door. Only Chrono could still be seen, holding the door. Tension tightened his shoulders, and with his mask on he was an unreadable as she remembered. The hand that wasnāt holding the door twitched, and she looked at it, obviously, before glancing back to the door and rolling her eyes. He wouldnāt shoot her. Theyād known each other since they were in diapers. And unless heād suddenly gotten massively better with his quirk, there was no way that heād defeat her in battle. Overhaul definitely wasnāt going to do anything, and Mimic would follow Overhaulās lead - show no cracks. And Shigaraki? He knew her value in the situation, otherwise he never would have brought her.
He tried to play a power move against Overhaul and forgot she had a mind of her own.
She had the power in this situation.
āIāll leave the pissing contest to the men,ā Isane said instead, loud enough that she knew it would reach Overhaulās and Mimicās ears. She kept walking.
āWhere are you going?ā Chrono asked, taking a step like he was going to stop her.
Still very aware of the silence on the other side of the open door, she replied casually, āIām going to see an old friend. Iāll meet you on the surface, Shigaraki.ā
āWait! Youāre not supposed to-ā
She stopped mid stride and turned, facing him, the challenge obvious. āThen stop me.ā
Seconds passed. No one moved or rose to object.
āAlright, then.ā
She turned, slipping out a black facemask from her jacket pocket and slipped it on over her ears. No one followed behind, and she didnāt expect them to.
She was going to find Rikiya. Everyone else be damned.
