Unbeatable is an undeniably fun, stylish, and rock & rolling project by D-CELL GAMES, and I really am looking forward to playing it when it comes out. The art direction obviously shows alot of love for classic anime styles, and really reminds me of both FLCL, and the various works of the Scott Pilgrim oeuvre. The dynamic game play, along with what sounds to be an amazing soundtrack, ( here's the sound cloud,) also reminds me of the wonderful aesthetics and flow states of Sega classic Jet Set Radio, and the more recent Hi Fi Rush.

Also, the character designs of the main band seems really fun and vibrant, and the make for a great ensemble when all on stage together. The world also seems to have a narrative flare for teen rebellion, and civil disobedience in a way that is deeply punk. Also the mini games and rhythm sequences all seem perfect for getting lost in the games well tailored setting. As D-Cell themselves say "We're making a game where music is illegal and you do crimes."

I will note that despite having all my hope to see it come out, the above was a re-announcement trailer, and the game's website seems to be down at the moment, but have a little faith in the 2025 release window, and wish list this awesome looking game to show some support!

First of all, the game gives us the hilarious phrase “Christian real time strategy”.

But the game was known for really, really embodying the, uh, values of the franchise.

You could recruit new units, and there were seven classes, but female units couldn’t use them. Women could only be nurses, or singers.

But the game’s main objective was to convert or kill every non-Christian you meet, which is very...eugh. It also created controversy when a group wanted to send a copy of a game where non-Christians must be converted or killed to soldiers in Iraq, which...what.

Incredibly, game critics were mixed on the game. Some even liked the gameplay, if not the message. “In the pro column, it’s a old-school RTS. But it has some small drawbacks, like poor pathfinding, and advocating for genocide. But the gameplay is good, and it has replay value to spare. Seven out of ten!”
