I think I’ve finally broken out of my art slump (I mean, I’ve been doodling fine but today I did the first decent stuff in months). Unfortunately, if any of you were expecting me to share, you probably should wait until it gets colored. Which will be later because I need to lie down and give my shoulders a break.
I think the only OC female characters that people have rejected from my fic have been Lex Luthor's sister and Blaine's sister. And Lex's sister, people eventually grew to like. At first they were seeing clones of Brainiac everywhere, and she seemed a little "too good to be true", aka Mary Sue. But as she became a whole character, people liked her, I think. She's not as connected to her own life when she's with Lex, but there's a good reason. No one back in her neighborhood would really want to see Lex Luthor hanging out and telling them what to do.
Blaine's sister was liked in "Don't Call Me Claire" and "The Orchid and the Weed," as the lovable fuck-up of the family. When she was in the zombie series, though, some people told me they didn't care about her. And she was more or less the same, but a little older/mature despite still wearing pigtails and glitter in part for protection to seem harmless, and she had some more training in her field, so she actually had enough brains and skill to be dangerous. I thought she did okay opposite of Cooper (he's not really likable in the series, but he's liked), but she also didn't have a huge focus, so I can see why some people weren't that interested (though I really didn't need to hear that they just skipped scenes with her in them). In the end (spoilers), I found that some people were happy to see her hook up with Santana.
Aude was also another hard sell... Rafe was easy. Everyone loved Rafe. But the first people I showed Aude to didn't like him at all. And I'm not sure if it was because Aude was originally conceived to be a potential love interest for Kurt or if her drag persona is a little much to handle without the balance of the rest of his personality. But I like Aude's intro scene, and the scene in the doctor's office, because I think they establish Aude well enough. I've cared less about what people think of Aude, and more about making sure Aude has a life outside of supporting Kurt. Aude is an awesome person. Why wouldn't Aude have a hot boyfriend? Why shouldn't he get a great job?Â
