Facts about ocean plastics:
A dead sperm- whale was found ashore with plastic in its stomach; including 115 drinking cups, 25 plastic bags, plastic bottles, two flip-flops and a bag containing more than 1,000 pieces of string ( weighing 13.2 pound,six kilograms).
Every year there’s an estimate of 640,000 tons fishing nets in the ocean, this being a large part of pollution.
3) whale dies after swallowing 6 square metres of plastic:
August 2000, an eight metre Bryde's whale died after being stranded on a beach. it’s stomach was filled with 6 m2 of plastic, including many plastic check-out bags.
4) 'Lucky' the platypus rescued:
May 2003, a Platypus was rescued with a plastic bag wrapped around it, cutting into the body. However, it was deemed to be okay and set free.
These are only some of the issues with plastic in the ocean. Over 1 million marine animals die from plastic in the sea each year.
