CHOPPED MEAT
2 months after my father’s accident.
It left him paralyzed and i remember the exact moments it happened, i hadn’t been the same since really and ever since—I had to get a better job than my last to help him pay for his medical bills that were still unpaid and to help him pay for medical equipment. As much as i hated being around blood and body parts, i had to settle for a butchery.
It sucked.
The boss was a bitch, all he wanted was money—he didn’t even help!
“Hey, Vincent, how’s ya good-fa-nothing father doing!” He patted me on the shoulder, letting out a loud guffaw then sauntered right on after.
He often mocked me like this when he was around and no, i couldn’t really do anything about it either. The town sucked just as bad and I had to settle for it because it was better than the last one i had that paid less than minimum wage as a cashier being constantly berated by the customers.
I chopped and sold meat for a living now, i hate to admit i’m a squeamish person but it’s painfully obvious.
*CHOP-CHOP-CHOP*
I gagged but swallowed it back down, my boss sat there and watched, chuckling at my misfortune. I wanted to quit on the spot, the thought of my father being miserable though… I had to just swallow my pride and keep going.
…
After a while though, i began to notice that my father’s condition had only gotten worse and the person that had been able to take care of him while i was gone was beginning to come over less and less. I felt bad for him, it must feel horrible to feel like a burden to people around you. I had to take hours off and i couldn’t do the janitor services anymore either, it stung since i knew they would cut my pay and then laugh to my face about it.
I guess it’s fine though, i’ll figure it out later like i did before.
——-•
They had to hire someone else to do the janitor shifts, i initially thought they would only hire them at late hours. Apparently not.
Immediately when they entered the building though, i felt the energy shift.
I sunk into my hands, feeling already awkward since it had always been awkward when i had coworkers but when i rose back up slowly and shifted to look around, they immediately already went all up into my face.
“Hi! You must be the guy who also works here..!”
Their voice was shrilly and already a very stark difference to my old coworkers, they were looking at me with a smile that went from ear to ear, i recoiled immediately. Never once had i met someone that had been THIS happy to be at work, especially at a job that is working janitor services and AT a butchery too.
“GAH!”
I rubbed my eyes before settling back down from that immediate shock. I took a moment to scan his face with mild suspicion and uncertainty. This guy seemed ODD, i’m a bit intrigued though since it’s the first time i met someone like this at work..
“Uhm.. yeah?”
I observed him again, seeming a bit more suspicious now, why is this guy so excited to be here? Nobody LIKES working here, that’s why i’m the only guy here.
“Why are you asking?”
I squinted my eyes at him, already contemplating if this guy was insane.
“Nothing!”
He chirped then trotted off, already mopping up the messes that had been needing a cleanup. This guy is SO odd but he has this certain charm to him, maybe i’ll know him a bit better the more the days or weeks go by.
Part two tomorrow or something idk
