These have been a lot of fun to make, even if there was a lot of sending files between different devices and I had to get familiar with Krita again as it's the only drawing program I currently have on my laptop. (Apparently I hadn't updated it in years, so yeah... it's clearly not gotten much use in a while 😅)

A lot of fanfics in which Danny Fenton becomes the ghost king usually portray the Observants as an antagonistic force for Danny, with both him and the Observants disliking each other quite a bit. This is, in my opinion, a woeful underutilization of the Observants.

How about we flip that a bit?

The observants see how badly danny is doing being a hero, going to school, being the new ghost prince until he reaches the maturity to be the ghost king. It’s a lot, he tries to spend time with his friends as well even if he barely got 4 hours of sleep in the last few days.

So the observants decide to take care of it! It’s best for the realms if they have a competent ruler later on, so they stop ghosts from leaving the realms until school lets out.

No only one of you, you are allowed to team up, but no more than two at a time!

Every second weekend they don’t allow anyone through. Danny needs his socializing! They saw what happened if he is lonely!

I updated the model I made from the OC Parade earlier this year

Back then I wrote that I struggled with the eye-rig for Gary , I was not happy but I managed to make it work somehow. But still, the iris was crooked and didn't wrap around the eyeball.

In the meantime I learned some new methods for rigging and I figured I can redo Gary's rig with these methods. Now her iris wraps neatly around the eyeball and controls are better. Additionally, I made some adjustment on the meshes and added some textures instead the flat colors from before. Here a comparison in T-Pose:

Those are the Observants: Julian by @sykloni and Gary with her eyesha by @letswonderspirit

( I must ask: Is "eyesha" the actual name of this Observant or just a title because they take care of Gary? )

I've never modelled an Observant before, and Julian, Gary and eyesha all have such interesting designs that I couldn't decide which one to make, so I just modelled them all :D

Actually that was also some practice for speedmodeling, I gave myself 1 hour for each Observant. But it turned around I needed 5 hours in total for all three. One reason was that I experimented with a rig for Garys eye. I wondered how can give her different expressions without an eyelid. You can't see it in the animation above but I actually managed to make it work:
