๐๐ฉถโญ๏ธ๐๐ OSOR Outreach in Georgia! ๐
We're coming up on two weeks since I had a marathon weekend of doing objectum outreach at both Momocon and a local market, oops! I'm finally home and settled after traveling for moving prospects, so I figured I'd do a little write-up at long last.
Atlanta's Momocon was lovely! We had a more intimate, smaller group this time around, largely spread through word of mouth online and through people in the area who requested I arrange something. The lack of an established place to announce events probably contributed to lower numbers, but honestly? I love smaller meetups like this and I had such a fun time speaking to familiar faces again ... and seeing some new ones!
I also was able to exhibit my work at a smaller market put on by the lovely folks over at Kitty House in Athens, who have been nothing but accommodating and incredible towards my artistic expression. If you're looking for a place to give back to your community as your artsy, freaky self: this is the place to do it. No contest. Ask them how to get involved! ๐ฝ
The audience for these events were vastly different, both with their own unique challenges. I love bringing my community together and giving us a tangible, physical space to talk about the objectum experience, but I also really, really loved speaking to the general public. I had a few people walk up to my booth during the market and inquire about my body of work. It's become easier to say the hard part first: I am an objectumsexual. I am in love with my car. This is my art about it. I strongly believe objects as a concept are universal and tell us a lot about ourselves โ let's talk about it!
I heard a lot of really good responses to this take, and feedback encompassed people telling me about their own cars, places they've left, things they've loved ... ultimately we settled on mutual understanding, even if they're not objectum, and I was told that my perspective was very unique and refreshing. I think in an increasingly scary world people were just thankful to see someone loving the mundanity of life. It's one of the most beautiful parts of being objectum for me.
This marks what will very likely be my last objectum outreach opportunity before I move out of the south. I'm really heartbroken about it, but cannot overstate how excited I am for the plans I have on the horizon. Rest assured: my work doesn't end here, and those I'm leaving behind have designs to continue in my stead! ๐โโ๏ธ That's what outreach is all about and I've so, so proud of what I'm accomplished in my time here. ๐ซ Onto the next adventure! ๐๐จ
