Standoff! This toutouwai (North Island Robin) and korimako (Bellbird) were unsure of sharing a perch. They soon carried on to continue foraging and singing loudly. Hauturu is amazing for its birdsong. Continuous. Ringing. The air is full of sound from dawn to dusk, and then the kiwi, ruru and petrels take over with their own nocturnal chorus. Here we have Christmas in summer, but it didn't feel like it about a month ago, when @tonywhytednz and I headed to Fiordland on a #birdventure. We were caught in the snow, with a thick blanket of white falling overnight, and Black-fronted terns still hunting the plains of the Eglinton Valley as thick flakes flurried through the air.
