The last major high rise worked on by Cass Gilbert was New York Life Insurance headquarters located on 51 Madison Avenue, just northeast of Madison Square Park. I posted a blue hour image back in September of last year, but I really like the mysterious look the Gothic tower takes as the skies grow black. The 88 foot high octagonal gold tile element with its 25,000 22-carat gold baked tiles gilded in the same fashion as china and the 57 foot lantern also leafed with gold give the edifice a truly unique outline particularly from this distance. Like I mentioned in the prior posting Gilbert’s grand-daughter does tours of the Woolworth Building down by City Hall at Park Row. @bheventspace #bhportdev @timeoutnewyork @nybucketlist @flatironny @nycityworld @nycurbanism @nyc_explorers @nycgo @loves_nyc #nyinsta #nyinstagram @ig_nycity https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs_AwZgnVDi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1vo7wmho5a1px
