I do love Chicago! though 1. all the awesome ladies 2. bob fosse

basically anything associated with Bob Fosse. into it. 

but I always find that film musicals manipulate the form of film more than stage musicals manipulate the stage?

and I think a huge part of giving me the disbelief that these people are singing is also moving that disbelief into another realm of the form. 

Chicago, Cabaret, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, Les Mis, West Side Story (to some extent) are the ones I am thinking of that do this. 

musicals just seem inherently liminal, so if the form that is given to me is a stage play with music, I am left wanting. 

I'm finding it incredibly hard to even bring myself to do this exercise

are you doing Rosencrantz and Guildenstern? I don't think it really works with it at all? Because it doesn't change things that happen in the play, just shifts everything. it is a struggle
