π¨ AHPRA English Requirement Change β Effective 23 April 2026
If you're planning registration in Australia as a healthcare professional, this update is critical.
π’ The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has officially updated English test score requirements from 23 April 2026.
π Whatβs changing? βοΈ New minimum scores apply to tests taken on or after 23 April 2026 βοΈ Old scores apply only if your test was taken before 22 April 2026 βοΈ If using two test sittings, you must meet old + new rules based on test dates
π‘ Important insight: This change is based on updated global researchβbut it does NOT change the overall English proficiency level required.
π Accepted English tests remain the same: βοΈ IELTS Academic βοΈ OET βοΈ PTE Academic βοΈ TOEFL iBT βοΈ Cambridge (C1/C2)
β οΈ What this means for you: β You cannot rely on old score criteria if you take the test after 23 April β Planning your test date is now more important than ever β Even small score differences can impact your registration
π― Strategy tip: If you're close to meeting the old criteria, timing your test before or after the deadline can make a big difference.
π Bottom line: This is not just a score changeβitβs a strategy change for healthcare applicants.
Donβt risk delaysβplan your AHPRA pathway carefully.
