Last chapter - Thanks for letting me tell you my silly little stories!

AN: Although this chapter includes Kat from my other fic, just assume this fic & the timeline of roads don't intersect ✌🏻
I didn't start this with the knowledge that this would be the last chapter, but it felt right.

"Do these need to go in the oven?" Robby wonders, as you string fairy lights across your bookshelf, and you laugh.
"Probably, unless people want to eat frozen quiche."
"With the meatballs?"
You set down the lights, making your way over to where he's standing in your kitchen, and you wrap your arms around his waist.
"You can take them out, and put them in the crock pot."
It's almost seven, and you know people will be arriving before seven thirty, and you lean up on your toes, pressing a kiss to his cheek before you finish hanging the lights, and you grab the pack of plastic cups when you hear someone blast their horn outside, and you grab Winston, hurrying out onto your balcony to see Vivi and Jesse, and Dana is standing with Perlah, waiting for the light to change.
"Did you want to change?" You grin, and he glances down, realizing he's still wearing his scrub shirt.
"Yes, shit," he mutters, shoving the mini quiches into the oven before dashing into your bedroom as the buzzer next to your door goes off, and you hurry over.
"Come on up!"
You flex your hands, glancing around at the lights and the few rose gold and black pompoms Robby had taped to the ceiling, in a haphazard little clump that made you laugh - not as hard as you might've, since he looked so proud of himself.
"Hey!" Vivi cries, pulling open the front door, Jesse caught Winston before he could make a run for it, scooping him into his arms, and you wrap your arms around Vivi.
"This is pretty," she grins, trailing her fingers along the strap of your new dress. "So, how was it?"
You know what she's referring to, the meeting you'd had with Gloria and HR earlier that morning, and you shrug.
"Good?"
You hadn't been sure what to expect, a throng of stern faced officials, but it was only Gloria and a man named Michael. It had been a quick meeting, where they made sure you hadn't been pressured into anything, and you flushed, assuring them, that you really hadn't.
Gloria watched you, and you realized this was the first time you'd been face to face.
"Are you the nurse who performed the scalp vein catheterization on that burn patient last month?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"You came highly recommended from Harbourview," Gloria nods, going over the notes in front of her. "I trust you're happy here?"
You nod, and a smile breaks upon the older woman's face, "then let's hope it stays that way."
You nod, stepping out into the hallway where Robby's waiting, wringing his hands before glancing up at you.
You're not sure what he'd been expecting - you telling him tearfully that you'd be heading to St. Claire's by the end of the week, but his face settles into something like relief when Gloria calls his name.
You're only contact is a brush of your hands, but regardless of how brief, it's still a promise and you hurry downstairs to continue your rounds.
"What are the flowers for?" Robby wonders, as Dana thrusts them into his face.
"Congratulations are in order, no?" She grins, "I know Trinity's already collected her winnings, but at least now hopefully you'll ease off on the longin' looks across the ED department - I feel like I'm in fucking Pride and Prejudice -"
You snort a laugh, accepting the flowers as Winston meows up at Dana, standing up to bad at the zipper of her hoodie.
"Who's this?" The older woman, asks, delighted, "co-parenting too, that's a big step Robinavitch."
Jesse bites off a laugh as he deposits the champagne on the counter.
"He's an easy baby," Robby jokes as Winston nuzzles into Dana's arms.
"You've been replaced," you laugh, as Perlah wanders over to where the pompoms are dangling.
"I take it Robby hung these."
"Hey!"
Your buzzer rings again, and this time it's Trinity, Dennis, Mel and Dr. Abbot - with a younger woman you don't recognize, who stands a bit behind him, holding a large Tupperware of what looks like cookies and your face brightens.
"Are these your cookies?" You ask him, and his face flushes.
"Maybe," he glances at the brunette standing next to him, "this is Kat -"
"Sabrina," Trinity coughs, grinning their way.
"Nice to meet you."
"You too," she smiles, holding up the Tupperware, "he's adorable," she laughs as Winston leaps onto Robby's shoulders.
"Thanks, he's a rescue."
"Oh, which one?"
"Nine Lives."
"Oh that's the one I work with," Kat says excitedly.
"Is something burning?" Jesse wonders, standing by the counter.
"Shit, the meatballs!" Robby yells, rushing to the stove and by the time he pulls them from the sink Mel is trying to insist that they're 'mostly' salvageable as you and Perlah laugh - leaning against each other as the fire alarm goes off, which only makes you laugh harder as Dennis grabs a tea towel to start clearing the smoke.
"Jesus Christ," Frank mutters, holding a fruit tray with James and Victoria - who looks alarmed.
"Sorry," you wheeze, "it's just the meatballs -"
"They're okay," Mel assures you, "just a bit crunchy -"
"You don't have to eat them," you assure her, "I just need to heat up the chicken wings."
"I’ve got it -“ Robby says, opening the fridge.
"Remember that you need to take the foil off," Perlah smirks, wiping her cheeks.
"Thanks," Robby quips, giving her a look that makes her laugh.
Once the chicken wings are reheated and the oven's turned off, someone starts playing their playlist, as your kitchen table is piled with flowers and a couple of house warming gifts and it's dark by the time the stragglers leave and you collapse onto the bed, face first, dress half unzipped.
"We're never hosting for the holidays," you mumble, turning to look at him.
"No?"
"Isn't Hannukah eight days?"
"You don't have party for all eight days," Robby snorts.
"See? I don't even know anything -"
"Hey," he murmurs, resting his hand on the small of your back, "I don't expect you to."
"No?"
"It's just me, in Pittsburgh - and we don't have to have a party at all if you don't want to."
"Can we get a menorah?" You sniff, sitting up.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have one kicking around, somewhere."
"I don't think I'll be able to get Christmas off."
"Me neither," Robby jokes, and you snort as you shrug off your dress, and you wrinkle your nose.
"It still smells like burnt meatballs."
"That's why I use DoorDash."
You laugh out loud, "I've tasted your food, Michael, you can cook."
"For you," he whispers, pressing a kiss to your shoulder.
"Kat seems nice," you murmur as Robby gets into bed.
"She's good for him," Robby gets an arm around his waist.
"I knew he was going to adopt that kitten."
"Apparently Linus is the only one left."
You turn to look at him, "why?"
Robby shrugs, "I just worry that Winston gets lonely."
You sigh, "she showed you the video of him in the bath, huh?"
"Maybe."
"She gave her number, I'll message her tomorrow before work."
"'Kay," Robby murmurs against your hair and you lay against his chest, feeling his heartbeat under your chest.
It was funny how things worked out, just the way they were supposed to... although, you could've done without the foam ball to the face.

Two Months Later...
It's comes slowly.
The realization creeping up the back of your neck, the knowledge a warm curl in the pit of your stomach.
It's quiet.
In the way Robby has slowly fit himself into your life, how you almost forget there was ever a before.
An extra toothbrush - beard oil sitting next to your ANUA toner, the gleaming latch and a pantry door that's stayed closed since Robby fixed it.
The collection of cat nip infused pickles you kept in your junk drawer, and his old pair of extra glasses.
You're not even sure when he brought a spare comforter over, but, as you curl up in the hunter green plaid blanket, surrounded by his scent you've never felt more safe.
Sometimes, you let yourself believe that it's not just you - in the way Robby searches for you from across the ED, his murmured assurance as you slide the catheter home. How close he holds you after a particularly rough shift, fingers curling through the length of your hair as your tears soak into his shirt. The kiss he presses against the crown of your head is a sort of confession.
You feel crazy.
Desperate as he pushes your dress over your hips, whispering your name and how beautiful you are as he pushes inside of you. It's more than just sex.
You've never felt so seen.
You finally allow yourself to acknowledge it as the strobe lights flash across the stage - crowd surging as the opening chords to Kismet blare from the speakers - shaking you to the bone.
We were written in the stars, pulled a lover's tarot card
You're in love with him.
Let's unravel all the thread, let's see how it's gonna end
You raise your hands, singing out with everything that's in you - gems glistening against your eyelids, as his hands flex against the curve of your waist.
Ooh, it's like I'm meant to be with you
It's kismet baby, yeah
You've never felt so alive, and so terrified.
"Yeah," Robby murmurs, as Winston rolls onto his belly in your lap. "Yeah, I'll be there as soon as I can."
You run your fingers through Winston's fur, as he tugs his scrub shirt over his The Beaches t shirt.
"Mel had to leave early -"
"Oh," you sit up, "is she okay?"
"Yeah, the pipes burst at her sister's place. I shouldn't be too long."
You laugh, giving him a look.
"It's Sunday, I'll be back by nine -"
"Okay," you tilt your face up, as Robby bends down to give you a kiss.
"I'll see you later -"
"Love you."
The words tumble from your mouth before you can catch them, and you draw in a sharp breath.
No.
No.
Shit!
To Robby's credit, his face barely moves, except for his eyebrows that shift up a bit as he heads towards the door, and your heart is pounding in your chest when you hear it close.
"Oh my god, what the fuck?!" You cry, dropping your face into your hands.
You're not sure if the non reaction is worse than any reaction at all - you didn't expect him to say it back.
"Jesus," you mumble, fumbling for your phone to text Vivi.
⁹¹¹
You frantically send a wall of emojis, and Vivi's response is immediate.
ᵂᴴᴬᵀ'ˢ ᴳᴼᴵᴺᴳ ᴼᴺ?
ɪ sᴀɪᴅ ɪ ʟᴏᴠᴇ ʏᴏᴜ???
ᴼᴴ ᴹʸ ᴳᴼᴰ! ᴵ'ᴹ ˢᴼ ᴱˣᶜᴵᵀᴱᴰ ᶠᴼᴿ ʸᴼᵁ!
Bless Vivi. You shake your head, quickly calling her.
"I didn't mean to, it just slipped out!"
Vivi laughs, "okay, take a deep breath," you do it, "What did Robby do?"
"Nothing!" You wail, "I mean he raised his eyebrows, but what the fuck does that mean?!"
"I don't know babe," Vivi says gently, "but you are? In love with him?"
"Yes!" Tears fill your eyes, "I really am, but what if I ruined it?"
"Ruined what?"
"This - our whole relationship, saying I love you is a big deal -"
"Do you think he'll end it, just because you were honest?"
You swipe at your cheeks, "maybe."
"Girl. I've seen the way he looks at you -"
"That doesn't mean -"
"It's not nothing," Vivi interrupts, "I've had guys tell me they loved me, who never looked at me like that."
"So what do I do?" You whisper.
"I don't know, let him bring it up?"
"What if he doesn't bring it up? What if he doesn't -"
Love me.
Your unspoken words hang between you.
"Well, then you need to decide if you're okay going forward. Dr. Robby's ... Not exactly an open book -"
You snort, that was an understatement.
"But he told you he cares about you, right?" you nod, even though she can't see you. "So ... Trust that."
"Okay," you take a deep breath, "thanks. I was kind of having a mental breakdown over here -"
"Of course, babe. I've got you. But I actually need to go, or I'll be late for my spin class -"
"Oh, shit, sorry."
"Don't apologize! Love you!"
"Love you too," you say and you hold your phone against your cheek for a moment, sitting with Vivi's words: you need to decide if you're okay going forward.
Were you?
Okay with going forward? Even if Robby didn't feel the same? Even if he never felt the same?
Uncertainty sits low in your belly, and the realization that he might never feel the same makes your stomach twist, and you clap a hand over your mouth.
It hasn't even been nine months, you remind yourself, ignoring the fact that you've been half in love with him for nearly that long before you ever got nailed in the face with that dodgeball.
You look down at Winston, who's happily snoozing in your lap, making air bread as his ears twitch.
You didn't have to make a decision right now - and you bite your lip, settling back against the couch.
☤
You keep busy, heading out to run a couple of errands before heading to the grocery store, to grab the ingredients you'll need to make cinnamon buns (sans raisins), and you put on a podcast as you start making the dough.
You also decide to rearrange your bookshelf as the buns are cooking - and you make two neat piles of books to bring to the used bookstore down the street when the timer dings and you pull the fresh cinnamon rolls from the oven.
You burn your mouth, in your haste to eat it while it's still hot, and the icing sits in a little pool on your plate as you lick it from your fingers, and the door opens when you have your index and middle fingers in your mouth, and you glance at Robby.
"What are you doing?" He laughs, as Winston trots over, and you realize you look like a gremlin, hunched over the icing bowl and you flush.
"I made cinnamon buns."
"Is there any icing left?"
"Yes," you huff.
He narrows his eyes, noticing the various groceries you left on the counter, and the new book nook kit that is sitting on your desk.
"Are you okay?"
You pause, pulling your fingers from your mouth.
"Yeah, I - I'm fine."
He says your name, and you bite your lip, "the last time you baked like this, I took a double without telling you -"
"I'm not upset, Robby."
"Is this about before?" He wonders, drumming his fingertips against the counter, "what you said before I left?"
Your face flushes, but you shake your head, "it just slipped out - I didn't -"
"Mean it?" Robby interrupts, as his mouth turns down.
"I didn't mean to say it out loud," you clarify, "and it's fine, Robby, okay? You don't, like need to say it back or anything -"
"Hey," he leans across the counter, taking your hand. "You just surprised me is all."
"Really?"
"That you actually said it," he teases, "you wear everything you're feeling so openly - it's one of the many things I like about you -"
You swallow at the word, and it's settles heavily in your chest, and your face must drop because Robby shakes his head.
"Shit, no, it's one of the many things I ... love about you," he says the last three words so quietly you almost miss them.
"Robby, you don't -"
He laughs, eyes bright as he smiles, "when have you ever known me to do anything I didn't want to do?"
You shake your head, blinking against relieved tears.
"Will you let me show you?"
The spoon you used for the icing drops with a clatter, and you rush over to him.
"Say it again," you whisper.
"I love you," he whispers, and you stand on your toes, to slot your mouth over his, and he huffs against your lips as you push your hands into the hair at the nape of his neck, licking the frosting from your tongue as he leans down to pick you up, to carry to your bedroom.
"You made the bed," he laughs, as he sets you on your feet.
"I almost threw up," you admit, tugging his scrub top from his pants.
"Jack asked me if I'd told you yet."
"When?"
"Two weeks ago."
Ah, so that's why he'd giving you a knowing little wink the last time you saw him.
Robby lifts his arms so you can pull his shirts over his head, and you pull your sweatshirt over your head - leaving you only in a pair of cotton panties, as Robby wrestles to get his pants off.
"Where do you want me?"
"On your back. I want to see your face."
You whimper, clenching your thighs as you sit on the edge of your bed - scooting back until your resting against your pillows.
"God, you're so fucking sexy," Robby murmurs, crawling up to kneel between your legs, "laid out for me like this."
You grin, gripping your thighs so you can hitch your knees up, and his eyes zero in between your legs, and how your underwear clings to your skin with your arousal.
He leans down, pressing a kiss against the jut of your hip, before nuzzling against your belly and you push your hands into hair as he finally gets his mouth on you.
"Oh -" you gasp, back arching as you grind your pussy against his mouth, whining as he pulls back, so he can pull your underwear off and your pussy clenches as he slips his tongue inside of you. "Oh fuck!" You cry, thighs trembling as your orgasm rolls through you.
"Mhm," Robby grunts, tongue fucking you through it, eyes not leaving yours until you're coming a second time.
"God - please, Robby, I need you inside of me -"
"Shh," he soothes, running his hands up your thighs. "Can I have you on your knees first?"
"Y-yes," you mumble, clumsily sitting up, hands shaking as you slip off the edge of the bed.
"There's my pretty girl," he grins, getting to his feet, pulling an elastic from his wrist so you can tie your hair back into a messy top knot.
You blink up at him, reaching up to palm him through his boxers, and you don't waste any time tugging them over his hips so you can get your mouth on him.
"Fuck -" he pants as you lave him from the root of his cock to the swollen tip, swirling your tongue before taking him into your mouth, humming as Robby grips the back of your head, and you nod your head. "You're sure?"
You nod, taking a deep breath through your nose as he thrusts into your mouth, choking as the head of his cock hits the back of your throat - he eases off a bit, and the sounds of him fucking your face fills your bedroom as Winston knocks Robby's travel mug off of the counter.
You pull back with a laugh, as you hear it roll across the floor.
"I don't know why he's so obsessed with it," Robby laughs, helping you to your feet.
"Because it smells like you."
Winston was as obsessed with Robby as you were - maybe more, if his sweat rumpled shirt, covered in cat hair, that sits next to your vanity is anything to go by. He actually growled when you tried shifting him off of it, this morning.
You lay back, grabbing one of your throw pillows, to slot it under your lower back, before laying back down, and Robby wipes his chin before settling between your legs, and your knees bracket his hips as he leans down to give you a long, lingering kiss and you melt against him.
"I love you," he whispers, and your reply dies on your lips as he eases himself inside - you'll never get tired of it, the feeling of him splitting you open - how your pussy grips him as he pulls out, before sliding in to the hilt.
"I - ah - love you too," you pant, as guides you into a steady rhythm, and praise spills out of your mouth as he pumps into you, about how good he feels, how he's fucking you so deep - meeting every thrust with a roll of your hips and it's not long until you're writhing underneath him.
"C'mon, sweetheart," he whispers against the flushed skin of your neck, "come for me -" you cry out his name as you come - wetness gushing over his cock and he doesn't stop
"You're perfect, so fucking good for me -" he swallows your whimper, slowing his pace, so you feel every inch of him and you feel tears spring to your eyes as he drops his face against your neck.
"I'm gonna come," he grunts, and you lock your heels around his waist, holding him against you as his orgasm wracks through him and you feel your inner muscles clench as he spills himself inside of you.
He doesn't get up immediately, but tucks you against his side as his cum dries sticky against your inner thighs, and you lay there for a moment, before moving to get up.
"Where are you going?" Robby mumbles, already half asleep.
"I need to pee," you slip out of bed, padding over to where Robby's shirt sits on the floor, and you grab it before slipping into the hall.
"Hey Bubs," you call, and Winston looks up from where he's gnawing on the lip of Robby's travel mug, getting up when you shake his shirt before lobbing it towards the couch, and you grab Robby's cup, laughing as Winston shoves his face into the armpit of Robby's shirt, letting out a thrilled little trill.
When you make it back to your bedroom, you're surprised to see that Robby's awake, sitting up on his side of the bed, and he glances at you as you climb into bed.
"We're going to have to talk to HR," he says, and you swallow.
"Have you texted Lena?" You wonder, climbing into bed next to him and his brows draw together. "I assume I'm going to have to switch shifts for a bit."
"Why?" You shrug, "no, I mean, why would you have to switch shifts?" You give him a look.
"If this goes south, who do you think is going to be encouraged to seek a different department?"
"I will."
You snort a laugh, "that's adorable."
"Anything else is bullshit."
"It is what it is."
He looks at you for a minute, "and what do you mean 'if this goes south'?"
You quirk your head, "I don't know, Robby. People change - things change."
"We've barely even started and you're already thinking about the end."
"I'm not, I'm just ... Trying to be mature about this."
"You won't be switching departments." He shakes his head, "you'd go crazy if you were anywhere else but the ER."
"I had an interview at St. Claire's."
"They didn't want you?"
"They did want me, but I chose the Pitt." To say Yolanda was disappointed when you'd called after making your decision was an understatement - she assured you that should you change your mind, you'd have a spot on staff and it was closer to your apartment ...
"I'm not losing you to St. Claire's," Robby scoffs.
You curl against his side, "then you'd better not lose me at all."
He presses a kiss to your temple, "I don't plan to."
"Good," you nod, reaching for your phone, to send Vivi a gif of Sailor Moon with hearts in her eyes.

“Who are you texting?" Robby wonders, pressing a kiss to your shoulder.
"Vivi."
"She's going to cash that in immediately."
"Good, she deserves it."
Robby plucks your phone from your hand, setting it down with his.
"It's nine fifteen."
"Shit!" You yelp, scurrying out of bed to grab your sweats, "you missed the recap!"
"We can stream it later," he murmurs, pressing an open mouthed kiss against the slope of your neck, and you shriek as he rolls you onto your back.

Kara ended up in emergency for nearly six hours - thanks in part to a pretty bad car accident that left the passenger in the ICU, and you climbed into bed with Kara around hour four, falling asleep as the fan whirred in the background.
"Hey," Robby whispers, brushing your hair over your ear, and you blink awake.
"What time is it?" You whisper, voice thick with sleep, and you reach up to touch his face as Robby leans down to press a kiss to your lips.
"Hey," Dr. Ellis calls, "Dr. Abbot wanted me to come in and check - oh, shit, sorry," she grimaces, back pedaling out of the room.
You snort a laugh, face flushing as Robby stands up, "it's almost three."
"Nooo," you groan, startling Kara awake.
"What?" She wonders, gripping the blanket.
"I have to be at work in four hours."
"Shit," Kara rubs a hand over her face.
"How are you feeling?" You wonder, turning to face her.
"So much better," Kara grins, "but I'm hungry."
"I'll grab you a sandwich," you sit up, getting out of bed, "Dr. Ellis is going to come check your vitals, then Vivi will discharge you."
You spot Parker standing by the nurses station, ducking your face as you head towards the cart that held sandwiches and a juice, grabbing two turkey sandwiches and a fruit punch.
"Hey," Parker calls, "sorry for interrupting -"
You shake your head, "it's okay," you laugh and Parker shakes her head.
"I honestly had no idea, I was sleeping on you two!"
"Oh my god," you flush following her into the cooling room.
"Hey, I'm Dr. Ellis," Kara nods, gratefully accepting the sandwiches and juice. "Your vitals look good - on a scale of one to ten, how's your headache?"
"Um, zero?"
"That's what I like to hear," Parker grins, "you're colour looks good, I feel confident in discharging you - I'll have Vivi come in with the paperwork."
"Thanks so much," Kara grins, "where's mom?"
"Oh, she's sleeping in fifteen."
"I'll go get her," you mutter, around your bite of your sandwich, and you slip into the hall, catching Vivi's eye and she waves the discharge papers at you as you hurry towards fifteen, carefully opening the curtain.
"Mom?" You call.
"You're still here?" She murmurs, carefully rolling over.
"I fell asleep," you admit sheepishly.
"Don't you work in the morning?"
"That's what coffee's for," you grin as she sits up.
"And I thought your couch was bad," your mom mutters, slipping on her shoes.
"Did you want a sandwich?" She shakes her head, "what about a coffee?"
"I'll grab it on the way out."
You grab the magazines Robby had left on the table beside the bed, and the pages are curling from the damp air.
"Put pressure on that," Vivi murmurs, securing a bandaid against the back of Kara's hand. "Now, it's important that you continue to hydrate, water works, but Gatorade will help push more electrolytes. Make sure to have something salty to keep your sodium level, and stay out of the sun for the next few days."
"I'm heading back to Vancouver on Thursday, so that won't be a problem," Kara jokes.
"So that's it?" Your mom wonders.
"Yes, thanks so much for your patience," Vivi grins, "and it's so nice to meet you."
Your mom blinks, peering at Vivi's badge, "oh, you're Vivi, I should've known," your mom gestures at her hair.
"I wish it was under better circumstances," Vivi laughs.
"Why don't you come over tomorrow night if you're not working? We can order food -"
"Tonkatsu," Kara murmurs.
"Sounds perfect," Vivi grins, as your mom pulls her into a hug.
"I'm so glad she's making friends," she murmurs.
"Mom," you mutter, rolling her eyes.
"I worry," she quips, "you're two thousand miles away -"
"Don't worry, I've got her," Vivi assures her, wrapping her arm around your shoulders. "Are you going to go home?"
"I was going to ask Lena if I can just clock in now, and go home at five -"
"Oh, yes! Just like old times," Vivi winks.
"We'll Uber," your mom tells Robby, "you've done more than enough shuttling us around today."
"Are you going home?" You wonder.
"Yeah, I can bring your bag -"
"Thanks," you interrupt as Dr. Abbot ducks his head into the room.
"You're good to go, here," he grins, "stay cool, alright? I don't want to see you back at the hospital before you head home."
Kara nods, shouldering her purse.
"Are you staying?" He asks Robby.
"No, I'm going to see if I can't get back to sleep."
Dr. Abbot blinks, before looking at you.
"You're a good influence," he nods.
"Is Lena at the nurse's station?" You wonder.
"Last I checked."
"I'll call you later," you assure your mom, pulling Kara into a quick hug.
Lena is on the phone when you sidle up to the nurses station, face brightening when she notices you.
"What do you need?"
"Do you think I can clock in?" You wonder, "I'm already here, and there's no point in going back home just to head back here in a few hours."
"Of course, honey," Lena nods, "yes, hello?"
You glance at Vivi, "just let me get changed and I'll meet you in the break room. I'm going to need coffee."
"Sure thing," Vivi nods.
"Are you sure you don't want to head home?" Robby murmurs, touching your arm.
"No, I won't be able to sleep."
"But what if I need you?" He whispers, and you snort.
"You'll have me," you reply, "after work."
"I'll hold you to that," he nods, "I'm going to try to catch your mom by the vending machines."
"Okay."
"That's new," Lena says, consoirarorily and you jump. "Or ... Maybe I'm just late to the party."
You flush, "I'll be back."
"Take your time!"

"Honestly," Kara whimpers from the backseat of Robby's car, "I'm fine -"
You shoot her a look, "you're not fine, you've thrown up twice since we got in the car."
"Don't remind me," Kara cries, adjusting the plastic bag that's hooked over her ears.
"Why didn't you drink water?"
"I did," she snaps, "at breakfast."
You close your eyes.
"Lucky for you PTMC has a designated cooling room for days like this," Robby assures her, as Kara throws up a third time.
"Here," your mom murmurs, handing her the Gatorade, "small sips."
"You likely won't be alone," Robby turns into the ambulance bay.
"This really isn't necessary -"
"Don't be ridiculous -"
"I can't afford it!" Kara blurts, "Chris took me off of his insurance -"
"I'll pay for it," you say gently, as Robby cuts the engine, and you quickly unbuckle your seatbelt, so you can help your mom get Kara out of the Jeep.
"I'll meet you inside," Robby calls.
"When I said I wanted to see Dr. Abbot again, this isn't what I meant," Kara mutters as you get your arm around her waist, and even though you can feel the best radiating from her body, she's shivering.
"Look at me," you instruct, "it's a good thing you called," you brush her sweaty hair out of her face, "this isn't something you can just sleep off."
She nods, gripping the bottle of Gatorade against the back of her neck, as you make your way through the sliding doors, guiding Kara towards chairs.
"Hey," Bridget calls, "what are you doing here?"
"Possible heat exhaustion."
"God, you can't catch a break."
"Not me," you laugh, "my sister. We went to Phipps this afternoon."
"It shouldn't be long," Bridget calls as you shoulder open the glass door that leads to chairs, and it's surprisingly empty - which means you can lead your sister over to a seat.
"I'll talk to Marina," you head towards the window where Marina is sitting.
"Hey," the younger woman grins, setting down her fork, "what do you need?"
"My sister has possible heat stroke."
"What's her name?"
You tell her and Marina quickly types her name into the computer.
"What are her symptoms?"
"She has a temperature of a hundred and one?" You call to your mom.
"Last I checked," your mom replies.
"She's also having trouble keeping liquids down -"
"Is she still sweating?"
"I think so," you bite your lip, "she's also complaining of muscle weakness and is tachy -"
"Okay, we'll call her in as soon as possible."
"Thanks," you smile, "can I grab a barf bag if you've got one?"
"Of course," Marina passes one under the slot in the window.
"Here," you murmur, carefully pulling the plastic bag from her ears. "I'll throw this out."
You sigh, tossing it into the trash, hearing Vivi call your name.
"Hold on!" She hurries towards the door, "are you good?"
"I'm fine, my sister has heat exhaustion -"
"God, it was brutal today," she frowns, "when did her symptoms start?"
"She says when she got home, but probably when we were at Phipps."
"Let me grab a few things and I'll be right back."
"Thanks."
"Of course."
You make your way back over to Kara, "my friend Vivi's going to get an IV started -"
"Can't you do it?"
"Not when I'm not working, but don't worry, she's got a light touch."
"I'm sorry," Kara murmurs, as tears slip down her cheeks.
"Oh my god, don't apologize," you lean down to press a kiss to the crown of her head.
"Hi," Vivi calls a few minutes later, "my name's Vivi."
"Kara."
"I'm gonna get an IV started, this is just regular saline," she grabs an alcohol swab, crouching in front of Kara to quickly insert the iv needle into her hand, "this should help."
"Should she keep drinking Gatorade?"
"Not if she's just going to throw it up," you and Vivi reply in unison and you flush.
"Sorry."
"Don't be," Vivi laughs, "we'll hook you up with the good stuff if you need it." She rests her hand on Kara's knee, "are you having any difficulty breathing?"
"No."
"Headache?"
Kara nods.
"That's normal if you're dehydrated. Have you had heat exhaustion before?"
"A few times."
"We'll take good care of you," Vivi squeezes her fingers before standing, "we'll get you into the cooling room as soon as you're admitted."
"Can we come with her?"
"Of course - honestly, it's really nice in there."
Vivi leaves back through the door.
"I'll be right back."
You stand up, heading out into the hall towards the vending machines.
"Hey," a familiar voice calls, "I know that you're not working tonight," Dr. Abbot grins.
"No," you shake your head, "my sister decided not to drink enough water today -"
"Jesus," he mutters as you punch the code for two vanilla lattes.
"This is for me and my mom," you clarify, "I'm grabbing some chips for Kara."
"Good plan, did you need help?"
"I think I've got it," you laugh, "but thanks.”
You manage to carry everything back to your mom, and sister, just as Marina calls her name.
"Come on," you gesture, as Kara carefully stands up and Vivi is waiting for you.
Your mom takes a long sip, following you into the ED.
"The cooling room's just down here," Vivi lays her hand on the small of Kara's back, and Kara closes her eyes as she steps into the most filled room.
"God, it's like heaven."
"Come lay down," Vivi quickly sets her up to the heart monitor, "I'm going to grab a cooling blanket, and some electrolytes -"
"Lactated Ringer's?"
"You got it," Vivi winks, "and I'll grab something for nausea, so you can actually enjoy those."
"Thanks," Kara grins, shifting on the bed.
"Hey," your mom whispers, "me and your dad can help pay -"
"Oh," you shake your head, "it's okay."
"What about half?"
"Sure," you nod as the door opens and Robby steps inside.
"You already have more colour," he nods and Kara immediately bursts into tears.
"What did you do?" Dr. Abbot demands from the doorway.
"Nothing."
"Well, that's a first," he winks, "it's Kara, right?" She nods, taking the tissue you hand her. "Your heartrate is elevated, but nothing to worry about. I'm confident that you'll be ready to go home in a few hours."
You watch him grab a stool, "when did you start feeling sick?"
"In the greenhouses," your sister admits, softly.
"Phipps is beautiful, but absolutely brutal in weather like this."
Kara nods, "the Victorian glasshouse was incredible."
"Did you get some pictures?"
"Yeah," Kara reaches for her phone, "I posted a bunch to my Instagram -"
"Two doctors?" Vivi grins, walking into the room, "someone's getting VIP treatment."
"Well, you know how much we care about patient satisfaction here at PTMC," Dr. Abbot quips, scrolling through Kara's pictures. "Jesus!" He laughs, holding up a picture of the Queen of Hearts, from the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland flower show.
"Yeah, that was definitely a jump scare," you mutter.
"You're in good hands," Dr. Abbot glances at Vivi, "if anything changes, let me know."
"Did you want some?" Kara wonders, tearing open her bag of regular Lay's potato chips.
"I won't say no," she pulls out a big chip, and Dr. Abbot munches on it happily before ducking back into the ED.
"I wish the doctors in Vancouver looked like him," Kara sighs and Vivi laughs out loud.
"Did you want me to grab you anything else?"
"No, I'm okay," Kara assures Vivi, "I can nap right?"
"Oh, absolutely."
"Thanks so much," your mother says, tossing out her coffee cup.
"Of course, I'll be back to check on her in a while."
"It's a bit chilly," Robby rubs his arms, "you're welcome to wait in the breakroom if you want, the coffees a little less watered down."
"Oh -"
"It's okay mom," you smile, "you're not imposing and it's right across the hall. I'll come find you if anything happens."
"Thanks, honey," your mom pulls you in for a quick hug, "I'd better call your dad."
You brush your hair out of you face, and Robby glances at you.
"Are you sure you want to stay in here?"
"Yeah," you whisper, dropping onto the stool next to the bed, "for a bit anyway."
"Riflemagazine?" Robby quips and you nod.
"You know it."

"Okay," you laugh, "but that's why it's so good - because it's a parody."
"Really?" Robby sounds sceptical, glancing at the tv where Spice World's end credits are currently playing.
You nudge him with your foot, and he grabs your foot, pressing a kiss to your ankle.
"You know, I can see right up your shorts," he grins.
"Oh, sorry," you blush, closing your legs.
"I missed the part where that's a bad thing," he mutters, sitting up so he can settle on top of you - for a man near sixty, he was insatiable not that you were complaining.
"Mhm," you pant against his mouth as he slips his hands into your shorts - you're still sensitive from how he bent you over the counter, and he's careful not to brush your clit as he can carefully strokes you - and before tonight you had no idea that you could actually come like this but you're halfway there when your phone buzzes to life in the bedroom.
I'm in the business of misery, let's take it from the top
She's got a body like an hourglass, it's ticking like a clock
"Ignore it," Robby grunts as your pussy clenches
"I - ah- can't," you whine, "it's the - oh fuck - the hospital -"
"They can wait -
You huff a laugh as Robby's phone starts ringing, but he doesn't stop until your writhing underneath him, and you grab his hand, guiding his fingers to your entrance.
"P-please -" you beg, crying out as he eases his middle finger inside of you and you come hard, bucking against his hand and his laugh is warm against your neck.
"Good girl," he mumbles against your hair, before carefully pulling his hand from between your legs, and you don't miss the tent in his flannel pyjama pants as he gets up to answer his phone.
"Hey," he answers, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah," he laughs, and you can hear Lena on the line. "Gimme a minute."
You sit up, adjusting your shorts as Robby hands you his phone.
"Hi, Lena."
"Hey, kid, I know your mom and sister are in town, and I wouldn't be calling if this wasn't an emergency, but Olive's got strep, and Vivi's not going to be able to get here for an hour or so -" You sigh, "it'll be two hours tops."
"Okay," you nod, "it's a good thing I like you," you tease.
"Don't I know it."
"I just need to grab my bag, I should be there in twenty."
"You're an angel!"
You give him a look, "so ... Everyone knows."
"Oh yeah," Robby nods, grabbing his keys, and you push yourself to your feet, wandering over to the bathroom - quickly getting undressed to have a shower, as if using Robby's body wash would make you smell less like him, but smelling like bergamot and vanilla was better than sex.
Robby hands you your to go back and you get dressed quickly.
"Will you call your sister?" He wonders from the other side of the door, and you reach out to grab your phone.
It rings twice before Kara pics up.
"Hey," she's sitting with Winston, and your mom ducks behind her.
"Hi, honey. We met Millie -"
You laugh, "did she ask you over for tea?"
"She did, she also said you've had a number of 'gentleman callers' -"
Robby laughs out loud.
"Two mom, I've had two -"
"That's more than me!" Kara laughs, giving Winston a kiss, "he's the only man I need."
You quickly braid your hair, "you're over Dr. Abbot already?"
"Okay, well, and him."
Your mom heads into the kitchen, and you sigh, "look -"
"I'm sorry," Kara interrupts, "I shouldn't have dumped all of that shit on you."
"No, I want you to tell me about your life, it's important, and if you want, I'll give Dr. Abbot your number -"
Your mom's laughter is delighted, and Kara flushes.
"Don't you dare -"
"I can put in a good word!" Robby quips, and Kara drops her face into her hands.
"Oh my god -"
Your mom drops onto your couch, "I thought you had the next two days off."
"I'm supposed to, but I just need to cover for a few hours -"
"Are we still going for breakfast tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'll call you when I get up."
"Okay, love you!"
You glance at Robby, "are you still coming to Phipps tomorrow?"
"If you want me to."
You slip into the hallway, "I want you to."
"Then I'll be there."

"Okay, that's not fair -" Kara laughs, "I didn't say it to his face."
"He definitely heard you," you sigh, knowing the smile you gave your sister didn't reach your eyes, and Robby drops his hand onto your knee.
"What time is it?" He wonders.
"Ten to eleven," your mom replies easily, she glances at you before looking at Kara. "We should get going -"
Kara opens her mouth to protest and your mom shakes her head.
"The time change will hit you tomorrow."
"Okay," Kara groans, throwing back the rest of her beer, and you head outside with her and your mom and Robby stop to pay.
"God, I missed this," Kara murmurs, linking her arm with yours. "I was thinking of doing my last practicum in Pittsburgh."
Your stomach drops, "oh, I think you'll need to do a state specific licensure for that, you know, since you're going to school in BC."
"Oh yeah, my professor said I could look into deferring for a year, while I look into transferring back to WSU."
"Are you sure? I thought you were happy in Vancouver."
Your sister frowns, "Chris broke up with me," she admits.
"Oh, I'm sorry -"
"Don't be," Kara shakes her head, "honestly I think he liked the idea of me more than he actually liked me."
"That's bullshit," you snap, "after he gave you so much shit for not wanting to move to BC -"
Kara stiffens, "Trust me, I know, Dad's already given me several lectures."
"I'm not giving you a lecture -"
"I just thought maybe if I came back home he'd get off my back, you know, if I was more like you."
"Kara -"
"I've been doing my psych degree for six years, Dad keeps going on about money, like I moved to BC just to fucking spite him."
"He's worried about you."
"Disappointed you mean."
"What?"
The front door to Asahi Ramen opens and Kara lets you go.
"I'm too drunk to have this conversation right now," she sighs, pushing her hair over her shoulder. "I'm a fucking adult, I wish they'd treat me like one."
"Our Uber should be here in three minutes," your mom calls and you look at Robby.
"She insisted."
You hug your mom and your sister before they pile into the backseat of the Uber and you turn to Robby, leaning against him.
"Are you okay?"
You nod, as he wraps his arms around your waist, "yeah, she's just … a lot." Robby snorts, and you pull back, "it's not her fault," you assure him, "her boyfriend broke up with her, and she's going to transfer back to WSU and she told me that she wants to come to Pittsburgh for her final practicum -" just when you felt like you were finally finding your groove, the last thing you needed was your sister to throw you off kilter. "She's going to insist that she should stay with me and I couldn't say no -"
"Hey," Robby reaches up to take your face in his hands, "she's still a UBC right?" You nod, "she's not going to be able to transfer until Winter semester at least, and she probably won't be able to do her practicum until the summer - you've got time."
"I know," you nod, "but she's ..." Tears flood your eyes, "I swear I love her -"
"Of course you do, but family is hard."
That was putting it mildly.
"I'm just tired," you mumble as Robby brushes his thumbs along your cheeks. "Can we go home?"
Robby wraps his arm around your waist as you cross the street, pausing to kiss you before opening the passenger door.
"Your place," you mumble as he climbs into the driver's seat.
"Hm?"
"I meant your place, not home."
"Well for the next five days it is your home."
"You don't mind?" You wonder, fiddling with the strap of your purse.
"I wouldn't have asked if I did."
"Okay."
The ride back to Robby's is quick, and you half expect him to back you up, against the door of his car but he doesn't and you catch his hand, pulling him close, so you can press a lingering kiss to his mouth, in what you hope is a promise.
You'd barely seen each other all shift, and he huffs a breath against your mouth, stepping forward until your back presses against the door, before breaking the kiss.
"C'mon," he murmurs, and you let him pull you inside, crouching down to pet Gucci as you, Robby and Charlene wait for the elevator.
"You healed up nicely," Charlene smiles as you follow her into the elevator.
"Thankfully my nose wasn't broken.
"You take care of each other!" She calls as you duck into the hallway.
"Is that what you want?" Robby wonders.
"Yes -" you grin as he pulls you inside, and you leave a trail of clothes on the way to his bedroom, and you laugh as you kick off your shoes next to the table with the bowl of Werther's.
"It's okay if you don't want Kara to live with you."
"I know."
"I get the feeling your used to doing what other people want."
You shrug, "I used to be. I mean, therapy helped but that first year was rough."
Your parents had been furious, demanding to know why your were suddenly changing your mind, like you hadn't been considering a change for three years.
"Is that when you cut yourself?" He wonders, fingers brushing the inside of you thigh.
"Yeah - it was stupid."
"Not stupid," Robby murmurs, leaning down to kiss you. "Just not the ideal coping mechanism."
"Maybe I'll try riding a motorcycle without a helmet next."
Robby breathes a laugh, "I can't recommend that either."
You crinkle your nose, "what about vaping?"
"I'm the last to give you advice on coping mechanisms ... You're still in therapy?"
"Yep, I'm talking to Amy on Thursday." You bite your lip, as you sit on the edge of his bed, leaning back.
"Good girl."
You swallow, and Robby doesn't miss how you clench your legs.
"Do you like that?"
"I don't hate it."
Robby drops to his knees, "Do you want me to tell you how good you are?"
"Yes."
He runs his hands up your legs, and you let out a soft sigh as he parts your legs.
"Look at you," he breathes, noticing the damp patch on your underwear, "I can't believe you're mine."
"Am I?"
He glances up at you, "yes."
You bite back a moan as he brushes his thumb against your clit.
"I love the sounds you make -"
"Oh god -" you mewl, as he pushes two fingers inside of you.
"You're perfect."
Your orgasm hits you unexpectedly, and you cry out as your entire body seizes with pleasure, pussy clenching so tightly around Robby's fingers that he grunts, flexing his fingers inside of you.
"Now that's something you might want to bring up in therapy," he murmurs against your thigh, and you fumble to hit him, accidentally knocking off his glasses.
"Shut up," you huff, "you might want to bring up how you like it when women are bossy -"
"I don't like it when women are bossy," he shrugs, "I like it when you're bossy."
You hum, carefully rolling on your side, "you like being told what to do." You grab his shirt pulling him into bed, so you can climb into his lap. "You spend all day giving orders." You catch his chin before he can look away, "isn't that right, Dr. Robby? You like not having to think," you wait for his nod before you slip your hand into his boxers.
"Now I'm going to need you to fuck me stupid. Can you do that?"
"Yeah," Robby replies, grabbing your waist so he can roll you onto your back, "I can definitely do that."
