One of the most terrifying effects of extreme radiation exposure is the blue flash of light washing over everything one would see when exposed to high radiation. Now the scary thing is that this blue light would only be observed by any human (or biological) observer. A camera in this room would not see this blue flash.
The reason? The flash is caused by Cherenkov radiation. Analogous to a sonic boom but with light. Typically when the radiation particles are traveling at a velocity faster than the speed of light in a given medium. (Yes. Under certain conditions, it is possible for something to travel faster than light. If you lower the speed of light by sending the light through a different medium) so when you have sub-atomic particles traveling at near c now entering a medium such as water where the speed of light is slower. It is slowed down to the speed of light in that medium shedding its extra kinetic energy as Cherenkov radiation.
Now. Why would someone see this flash then if exposed to a bunch of radiation? In the events this has happened, there weren’t any large pools of water to cause the Cherenkov radiation. What there is however is eyeballs. Which are little balls of watery fluid in our heads. So when exposed to such intense radiation that a person sees a blue flash. That flash is coming from the Cherenkov radiation happening inside their own eyeballs.
A man just fell into a nuclear reactor…
research for creative nonfiction is so weird sometimes bc what do you MEAN I’m citing papers on the distinction between Seoul and Jeju Korean and then the fucking Ray Cat Solution in the same breath, then turning around and dropping the fact that the CIA pretended to be vampires in the Philippines with an official CIA citation as a side tangent that I will Not Be Elaborating On
BITCHES FROM ALDERAAN AND CHANDRILLA WHO HAVE BEEN ON THIS PLANET FOR A VERY LONG TIME ARE BEING MANIPULATED BY OTHERS IN MANY WAYS INCLUDING THROUGH INFORMATION MANIPULATION SUCH AS PROVIDING INCORRECT DATA, WHICH IS EASIER BECAUSE BITCHES LIKE THEM DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO DEVICES ON THIS PLANET. CRIMINALS WANT TO KEEP THE BITCHES FROM ALDERAAN AND CHANDRILLA HERE TO USE THEM AND WE WANT THEM TO LEAVE THIS PLANET IMMEDIATELY.
