I'm still here!
I was at the beach and then Charleston last week and I got to work out in a couple of really cool gyms while I was there. I still can't believe I didn't get a picture of Chucktown Fitness, which is like Entertainment 720 of the gym world. Anyway, I'm back in the real world now and have just finished my forth Workout A. I'm almost halfway through Stage 1, and I am visibly stronger after just two weeks. I just have to make sure I keep with it as exams approach!
Sweat is weakness leaving the body.
Happy spring break, y’all!
Today I did not want to work out AT ALL. I’m on spring break, so I guess my body kind of felt like it deserved a break. Even so, I eventually dragged myself to the gym and, once, there, I had a fabulous workout. I added weight on almost every exercise, so I was very proud of myself for that. The squats, however, may have been a bad idea. At the time it felt like 20lbs extra wouldn’t be a problem, but my knees are feeling a little tender this evening, and I definitely don’t want to get injured, so I’ll have to take a step back and just do body weight for a few more weeks.
I’m starting to get muscles, too! They aren’t at all well-defined yet, but when I flex you can tell that they exist, which is good enough for me after two weeks.
I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do Friday, because I’ll be in Charleston and I don’t have a gym there. Maybe I should just invest in a membership to Planet Fitness or something so I can workout wherever I go. Either way, I’m sure I’ll have completed and logged another workout by this time Friday.
waddup week 2
I finished my fourth workout for Stage 1, and I already feel so much stronger than I was just a week ago. I am so happy that I decided to do this, and I am excited to stick with it.
I'm at the beach this week, so I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to go to the gym. Fortunately, I found a place that isn't too far from our beach house that charges $25 for a 5-time pass to use the gym. The place was close to empty, the free weights were nice and clean-looking, and there was no competition for the lat pull-down. Plus, I got a great workout!

95% of the time, my Apple Watch and I are best friends. Seriously, it is awesome when it comes to taking calls, giving me driving directions, allowing me to discreetly read texts during class--you name it. But the one area where there is some serious room for improvement is the fitness tracking. Don't get me wrong--if you are doing cardio, it picks up your every movement. Anything else, like lifting, yoga, and Pilates, you get nothing. Not so much as a minute of exercise. So I guess you'll just have to take my word for it--I did the third without! Woohoo! I couldn't do the last set of prone jackknives. I seriously tried, but I could not even stay on the ball to start them. It was frustrating, but I didn't want to end the workout on a bad note, so I did a 30-second plank instead. Now I'm making a quick protein shake so I can build up a six pack for next time. 😸
Ok, I am two workouts into The New Rules of Lifting For Women (that's right--"lift like a man, look like a goddess") and I think it's awesome. The workouts are great and the diet plan is perfect for someone who wants to get healthy without cutting calories or banning carbs. Since this is my first post, here is how this blog is going to work: I'll be reblogging exercise-related things that I like, making text posts, and probably posting pictures and videos from my workouts over the next six months wherein I record the workouts and my progress over time. I am keeping track of my progress on excel spreadsheets and I'll probably post those at the end of each phase.
Back at it
After a two week break from the gym (but not all activity!), I was back there today. I did NROLFW Stage 1, workout B2. Since it's taken me 4+ weeks to get 4 workouts done, and I leave for Indonesia soon, I'm thinking about just alternating Stage 1A & 1B until I leave. Honestly, I'll be lucky if I get in 3 or 4 more lifting days before then with how busy I am. I'll basically start there again when I get back. Good thing I like those work outs. Anyway, I lifted and then I rode 8.5 miles in 30 minutes on the stationary bike. Still a tiny bit saddle sore from Sunday. Now, I will eat my leftovers from lunch in my car because I am too hungry to drive home.
