Polyester is the type to keep what he deems actually troubling for relationships to himself. Either consciously or subconsciously but either way usually due to never even questioning a lot of things in his life and that includes what he considers his duty. Includes what he considers to be his role in the relationship.

He can be reluctant to call it out when something starts burning him out or bothering him especially when it comes to things that are natural to him normally. He likes being in charge of communication and planning and that stuff but Polyurethane sometimes just expects him to take most of the workload as he's done before- and Polyester's torn between isn't this what I wanted? and does he actually appreciate this?

This also creates uncertainty and instability. It upsets Polyester but he can't palpate why or how. He'd generally keep quiet about his problems and his brother would try to get him to open up it can feel forced which neither of them like. He never really tells Polyurethane the extends he has or is willing to go for him because that's what he was supposed to do but then he feels underappreciated but then isn't he doing the bare minimum?

It creates subtle power imbalances because if Polyurethane notices something's off it could shift his entire view on his relationship with his brother. Has he been asking too much? Should he act how he normally does? Does Polyester react abnormally if he doesn't? Is he being the one who ruins things by changing how he acts? Also by not changing how he acts? IS he the one who ruins things?? Polyester's been bothered by him since the start???

As you can guess, Polyurethane would not react lightly to that at all. Also to this pattern of Polyester's where he ends up deciding where the relationship's going by himself. If there's something he's gonna say but never really says it but it affects him and it affects Polyurethane and then something's different between them because his brother won't acknowledge that Polyurethane can see when something is wrong AND he's just not saying anything AT ALL not letting Polyurethane help AT ALL and if it gets downhill from there??? Isn't Polyester going to catalyze that chain reaction by himself???

And don't get Polyurethane wrong he does not want that. But if something's really gonna happen that can ruin his entire life he should get a say in it, no? The probability that Polyester shutting himself in (metaphorically. If it was physically it would at least be possible to break open that door) will lead to a catastrophy. It makes him angry. It makes him scared. He's usually not even always full on catastrophy mode but subtle shifts can fire them up.

He makes it noticeable either by being too loud or too quiet. He may snap at Polyester over a small mistake he normally wouldn't care about. He may lose all enthusiasm in his voice and give Polyester the cold shoulder all day. To be fair, Polyester would notice something's very off pretty quickly but he's not that skilled at knowing what exactly is wrong. Mainly due to the same reason that makes him dismissive towards his own feelings.

So far I've talked about what causes problems on Polyester's end but Polyurethane's emotional dysregulation causes more than just disproportionate responses to Polyester's mistakes. He's easier to anger but when it comes to his dear brother there shouldn't be many triggers right?

Boo me but I think he may have a problem of reacting to something, fueled by an emotion he cannot recognize, sparked by an event he thought was unrelated, disturbing a wound he had forgotten about. Yeah I know right who would. In a way, everything he perceives would have to go through his emotional filter, which can distort things a lot, including his worldview which works to amplify it. Uncertainty is again a theme. He does not like it. He's almost insecure about being "too much". About his capabilities, about his place, where he sees himself. He has disdain and contempt towards people whom he feels haven't even worked that hard for what they've got or anything because his whole life he's been told he couldn't want this and couldn't get what he wants. Even though he's grown up, he can easily get riled up over it.

Polyurethane just does not want to be seen as anything less and to be seen as anything less is all the things a healthily thinking indiviual would not bat an eye to (like if someone other than Polyester babies him he'll go apeshit).

He may take it out on Polyester without meaning to if he's particularly disoriented that day. Ironically he might try to go and make a change by himself even though he hates when Polyester does it. He might take random huge risks. He might try to test Polyester but it might backfire because it results in a way that's not his ideal ending or Polyester's offended by it. If things are heated he might cross the line and say things for the sake of hurting just so Polyester can properly feel how he feels, too. At least that's how he excuses himself at that moment.

Also Polyurethane's kiiinda the type to forget about promises. Sometimes. Not out of dismissal of course but he might not see why that thing is important for Polyester, who would not take it well because well he would not have done that.

(Various things loop back to Polyurethane having no idea what fights Polyester's been fighting because neither of them have developed the organic kind of bound for communication besides shared trauma and twin-senses.)

When Polyurethane blows up he's louder, meaner, heavier. When Polyester can't take it he's colder, more callous and heavier.

It's harder to bring Polyester to that point of nervous breakdown. Doesn't mean he'll necessarily handle the argument in a mature way. He's the one putting distance between them when he decides he's not having any more of it. He can act pretty dismissive because he thinks it's better than continuing the fight. But then he's so insistent on this it can start its own fight even. Because he can stop responding like going full stoic mode mid-fight but that drives Uretan positively mad because WHY would he want his brother to ghost him irl when he's YELLING into his face about a problem he is CLEARLY having!!

Yeah Polyester returns to normal after Polyurethane does but like it's kind of giving "either act this way or I'm not talking with you" or forcing the fight to end a bit too quick which is kinda... not fineee...

Polyurethane would be more likely to be physical and throw a fit like we've seen them do. I see this happening more likely after they've established their relationship because he's not beating the shit out of Ester he's just stomping and throwing a tantrum against his chest (lowkey looks cute doing it but you don't know that) maybe breaking some glasses or something. Again Polyester might try to deescalate things at this point but that only works until Polyurethane's had enough of that too and Ester's just telling him to keep quiet about his feelings.

They will likely make up shortly after either literally right after or retreat but talk again before the day ends. Or the next day. It is said that whatever you deprive yourself of is what you need. They need each other.

Mostly Polyurethane regrets what he does right away. Polyester's happy to just embrace him even when the fight happens to be Uretan's fault. Sometimes Uretan can tell Polyester's not letting it show how much he's affected during the fights and even if he's mad he'll try to take a deep breath because even if everything seems awful and nonsensical to him at that moment he remembers wishing he had taken a break when he's back to lucid and even if he's dense and driving him crazy Ester is still his brother and his lover and "I still love you I'm just literally crashing out okay?"

It doesn't really matter who's in the right in the end because they're just sick of seeing each other hurt and feeling hurt and they want it to end. What Polyester does best is that he can usually take care of it pretty efficiently? He can't make his brother calm down but he can drag him to drink some cold water or ask him of he wants his shoulders rubbed. Uretan finds it cute and comforting and he'll probably pout about it. Sometimes he wonders if he should do the same and lay Ester's head on his lap and play with his hair and Ester would let him if he asked. With time they would slowly work on their flaws or other whatevers that cause their arguments. For each other's sake. They'd stop being so afraid of disagreement and going against everything they have done and have not done.

With time they're bound to settle into a more and more comfortable relationship and their arguments would be more like sibling fights and old couples' bickering.
