Look at this glorious illustration @praise-the-lord-im-dead drew of Noemie Gardeine, the main character from my old WIP, The Brilliant Hour.
This is from a scene in the first chapter. It's the moment when Noemie's in her performance clothes at a Night Market festival, and spots a flaming bottle of oil thrown from a great height, about to smash.
Didn't @praise-the-lord-im-dead do a terrific job?
everybody should be so so nice to novelists bc when they say they're writing a novel they might actually mean that they've written the novel like two or three times already so what they're saying is they're still writing the novel.
I've made another 2023 resolution: I'm going to write a novel. Not a NaNoWriMo-type "sit down and pound out the words as quickly as you can" novel, but one that will be long, complex, and demand careful planning. I don't want to share too many details yet, but I can say that it will be an alternate history set within a Roman Empire rather different from the one we know. If I may be so bold as to say so, I think I've come up with an interesting and enjoyable premise, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it takes me.
Absolutely going feral imagining my novel as I’m writing it!!
I’m at 70k rn I’m probably gonna get to like 100k and the final act of the story is in full effect and just imagining all the cool moments.
I’m like foaming at the mouth playing music and imagining what’s gonna happen and legit so excited for the story. I’m gonna die I’m so excited and happy to be an author like this is the dream I’ve never been this happy unless I’m writing

writblr introduction
Hello! Welcome to my writblr :)
My name's Simon. You can use he/him pronouns for me. I took a break from writing for a while but am excited to get back into it! Also this is my sideblog so I'll interact from @simon--spooks
I've been writing for a super long time and doing NaNoWriMo for like 9 years, I think. A super long time! This blog has been through multiple iterations, and you can find some of my old posts about my wips on here from when I was working on them.
I'll use this space to reblog some motivational posts, interact with other people to talk about the process of writing, and share bits and pieces of my wips! I was also motivated by my friend who made a blog for her comic!
My current project:
A collection of short stories about my dnd characters. Orindel the minotaur and child of Gnod (the gnome god), Goob the ooze in space, Roan the saddest cowboy to ever exist, and Val from Penumbra who has a very big secret.
Other projects:
in the woods somewhere - contemporary fantasy featuring fairies and my ultimate fave Rory. She's obsessed with ghost hunting and is a little goth and is ECSTATIC when she finds out there's a way for magic to seep into her world.
Arashna - fantasy lesbian knight and princess.
lover boy - YA mlm romance featuring a big emphasis on music! There's a David Bowie cafe!

Made 2k+ words on the backstory. I'm using a bastardized snowflake, and like... nobody every tells you how many times you are going to write your story before you actually get to start putting words to manuscript. I'm enjoying it though! This idea came from a multi-year daydream, so I've already seen the major events once. But the way things work in "infinite redo's imagination land" and the way they need to work for a cohesive narrative is really different. So I'm carving out the "boring" parts I didn't daydream from the darkness and sometimes that takes saying "yeah actually I didn't enjoy that at all, redo". At the end of the day, it's still a daydream - and it's my daydream, so I'm not going to get bored no matter how many times as I have to rewind and make different choices.
