We had a mandatory class at work about sex, healthcare and mental-physical handicaps and what it means for our patients. This "expert" went somewere along the lines of: everybody wants sex. Everybody needs sex. Human beings, with or without a disability be that mental or physical, need sex to function as a whole. My co-worker stood up and was getting ready to leave. He looked at me, shrugged and went nope, not doing this. The woman got a bit angry, at his attempt to leave. "Why are you leaving? This is mandatory and not only that i am an expert in this field and i prefer not to waste my time you know." He looked this woman dead in the eye and said " i don't want to waste my time either. Come on (my name) we are leaving. So naturally i went with him. And like that my entire team stood and went with us. We had to report to the medical chief of our team and had to explain why we left. My co-worker "i love learning. I want to learn every day. But not by some expert who thinks sex is neccesary to be a fully functioning human. No way." Our chief ( a really no-nonsense, stern, intimidating guy) looked at me. "Because of you i assume?" Yeah, me. I am ace, and really open about it. Chief knows this as well.
"Very well. I'll see to it that we schedule another class with someone with more knowledge. Dismissed."
My co-worker " wellll chief. Since we have 3 free hours....we thought about going to the park, ya know, do some teambuilding. Codeword for having some fun , you wanna join?"
Nobody expected our chief to join. He never does. But this time, he did.
He took me apart from the group. He told me his best friend in college killed himself because he could not be happy because people didn't accept him ( and his asexuality) so our gruff chief, with a heart of gold promised in his friends memory to never accept hate towards any sexuality. My co-worker, he probably knew.
I just wanted to get this out of my system.
