The Beast is no Kylo Ren
I saw Beauty and the Beast last week and enjoyed it and all. Based on widespread Tumblr buzz I expected to feel more of a Reylo vibe, but I truly did not.Â
The Beast wasn’t a convincing baddie and thus his salvation by Belle’s love was anticlimactic...  I never felt he was anything more concerning than grumpy, self-sabotaging, and intemperate. And he “turned” too quickly and easily from bully to pussycat via Bell’s ministrations.
Kylo Ren, OTOH, was a true baddy at the beginning of The Force Awakens. He chopped down Lor San Tekka viciously and then ordered an entire village to be slaughtered. His fascination with Rey was mysterious and unrequited. Â
The only moment in BATB that screamed “Reylo” to me was the mirror scene where the Beast demanded “Show me the girl!” Now, that made me sit up and say, “Hey, Kylo.”
I appreciate the fluffy fun of live-action BATB (especially my darling Ewan McGregor/Obi-Wan as Lumiere), but I’m not looking for parallels between it and the SW sequels... There was not one moment of chemistry or emotion in it that came close to the tension we saw between Kylo Ren and Rey in TFA. Â
