I've been reading Wolf of Withervale the last couple of days, bc it was pitched as adult epic fantasy but with queer MC and. I'm halfway through and it's a really good middlechool fantasy book. like, I'm enjoying it a lot.

except for the swearing and, moreso, somewhat graphic descriptions of sex/violence. which I guess is what's elevating it to less than mid adult fantasy book. (?)

what I'm trying to say is. why was this book not left as a middleschool/teenage audience story. it would've been so much better.

and it's not that the sex and violence are bad, it's that everything else reads like a book for 14yos and I'm having a hard time trying to reconcile both sides

#nothing important #as is the book is thus weird frankenstein of both categories #there are character decisions I would absolutely not put anywhere other than in Fir Younger Audiences bracket #bc I simply cannot tolerate them in a supposedly Adult book (according to goodreads label)#maybe I'm laboring under a misconception here and it IS actually for teenagers #books stuff
