bob says, “i believed you'd never lie.” / @nota1one
“and i told you you couldn’t trust me.” regret settles in before she finishes uttering the words. she doesn't mean it, not even a little. yet she doesn't budge, doesn't flinch. back up, there's no attempt to take it back. so stubborn, so cowardly. her jaw's tight, a dullness in her eyes that almost makes her look bored.
it's better this way. is it? it's the mantra on repeat. withdrawing little by little, lie after lie. where she is, what she's doing. skipping out on meetings, gone long enough to evade their questioning. withdrawing from the team, her job, withdrawing from him.
it was only a matter of time before she was confronted, unable to evade bob any longer. like a dog backed into a corner, she bites. biting the hand only offering to help. is that the nail in the coffin? the final push? will the remains of what she's throwing away be salvageable this time?
isn't that the goal? throw it all away? “that's on you. ”
