Radio 1′s Teen Awards 2018
Yesterday I attended Radio 1's Teen Awards at Wembley Arena, which celebrates young teen heroes, as well as having guest performances from current artists.
Featuring the likes of 5 Seconds of Summer, Little Mix, and Jonas Blue featuring Liam Payne and Jack & Jack, the awards show was certain to appeal to the teenage audience. 5 Seconds of Summer opened the show, starting the afternoon off with a bang, and hyping the audience up, with hit singles She Looks So Perfect and Youngblood. The show continued that way, with the audience up on their feet dancing and singing along to all the performances. Little Mix closed the show, singing their newest single Woman Like Me (featuring Nicki Minaj).
As far as award giving was concerned, we got to witness five awards being given out. Love Island took home Best TV Show, Little Mix won Best British Group, Young Sports Personality went to Kare Adenegan, and BTS walked away with both Best International Group and Social Media Star.
Despite the celebrities which enticed people to attend the Teen Awards, we were reminded of the main reason this award show is put on - to celebrate the achievements of the Teen Heroes. This year we were introduced to three amazing teenagers, Lily, Junior, and Siena. Lily (14) is a wheelchair motocross competitor, who helps children who are in the same position as her to access her sport. Junior (14), a UK freestyle dance champion, campaigns against bullying, due to being made fun of for dancing. He was lucky enough to dance alongside Little Mix during their performance of Only You. Siena (16) deal with a number of learning disabilities, and works to help and support students dealing with autism and other learning disabilities. Each of these teenagers' stories were so inspiring, and they definitely each deserve the recognition Radio 1 has given them.
