I found a game that is sadder than Mother 3
these types of games are exactly what I am talking about. Extra Credits did a great dissection of this game once. When I first played this game, I spent the time avoiding all the dots at the start because I thought that was the objective. When I encountered the unavoidable dots and noticed they scattered, I immediately was surprised. Maybe they had avoided me because I spent the game until then avoiding the others, I thought. So I kept trying to see if any of the dots would not scatter, until the very end. And we all know the conclusion...
