Okay look I know I haven't been posting much, so here you go. A treat.

You guys really seemed to like the last painting I did of rock so I made another painting of rock

I just think Kayleigh loved him with everything she had. She was such a boy mom, and her boy was her EVERYTHING. What if she took pictures of Kevin all the time, of her and her amazing son together, bc all I can see in my head right now is pictures like these, of the two of them, that Kevin has never seen before.

Did the Moriyama’s get rid of them when she died? Or are they there, somewhere, ready to be unearthed when the parties keeping them hidden finally die themselves? If he kept the letter, maybe Tetsuji kept photos, too. Has Kevin ever seen a picture of him and his mom together that isn’t from sports magazines from the 90’s, or from the day or week she died?

Kayleigh bringing her son around the world, to see the world as she sees it, photos of him in Europe and Asia. Pictures of Kevin with his first Exy racquet. Her and Kevin with a sports award, her and Kevin in an Irish pub somewhere in the US, her and Kevin smiling wide and happy and comfortable.

I like to imagine that Kayleigh did everything she possibly could to make sure he was happy and healthy. At least, up until the point where he was old enough to start playing, until the responsibility of his future was slowly, slowly, slowly pushed into the hands of the Moriyama’s. She bought him everything on his Christmas lists even when she couldn’t afford it. He never cried on his birthday. If he didn’t want to do school on any given day she wouldn’t force him, happy to get him out into nature, or on to the court, to enrich his growing brain in that way instead.

He never went to bed without a bedtime story or a kiss goodnight. He never had to wonder about whether or not he was loved.
