Cette illustration historique de l'artiste Angus McBride dépeint un épisode de l'invasion anglo-normande de l'Irlande survenu après la bataille d'Ossory en 1169.

Face à lui, la figure principale représente le roi déchu de Leinster, Diarmait Mac Murchada, reconnaissable à ses attributs vestimentaires traditionnels gaéliques, notamment sa cape frangée et sa broche circulaire.
L'œuvre illustre de manière crue les pratiques guerrières de cette période de conflits territoriaux, matérialisées par le rassemblement des têtes décapitées des adversaires au premier plan, un usage alors répandu pour comptabiliser les pertes ennemies et affirmer l'autorité du vainqueur.
