grisps you. because like. for michael and henry it's their striving to just End It All By Any Means Necessary. and that happens through death but michael just wants to put william to rest whereas henry wants to put ALL OF IT to rest. they both hallucinate charlie but henry hallucinates his ideal version of her (portrayed as a young charlie with softer features and wings and a halo) and michael hallucinates his intrusive thoughts as a more puppet-ified version of charlie [SAVE THEM. SAVE THEM. SAVE THEM. YOU CANT.]

for william and charlie ohhhh they are so. oh my god. the clingers. william clinging to life via his search for immortality (which he's blind to have already found in his resolute refusal to stay dead) and charlie who clings to familiarity (staying a ghost, not moving on) and thus in her own way clings to existence. they both drag everyone down with them, drag them down their paths. the way they both treat the mci as a means to an end, william first and charlie later. cassidy hates both of them.

there's also a comic i've yet to draw and maybe never will that goes something to the tune of william and henry in a shouting match after cc's death (which happens after charlie's) and william accuses henry of faulty programming in HIS animatronic, the one that killed HIS son. henry says you know damn well that that wasn't me and william says oh, unlike your puppet that probably killed charlie, no? and henry says don't fucking bring charlie into this and he leaves because: what if he's right? that it is his fault? the puppet couldnt save charlie; maybe even killed her itself.

and the next set of panels is charlie and michael in the security office and charlie's antagonizing mike about his hallucination of her because she thinks it's funny [because their relationship is built on punishment] and so mike antagonizes her right back about henry's hallucination of her, a very sore subject for her because how her dad doesn't remember her, she's not sure, and she, angry, fires right back with a comment about cc's death and how mike caused it because she knows that hurts and she wants it to hurt. and michael shuts down, closes off, and doesn't speak to her the rest of the night.

I think Rats condition is a metaphor for being visibly different, disabled perhaps, and so we dehuminize it for a condition out of its control- we use "it" for the rat, we refuse to gender it, kind of how we take away that personification from disabled children or intersex children.

The rat child is a human orphan, and were abusing it.

Rat Child is a human child, but its othered for its defects and we decided it is inhuman, despite its showcasing of humanity.

20. How do they approach the law? Are they straight and narrow or loose with the rules or something else?

she's pretty fast and loose with the rules, but she's also generally a good person. laws in most places fall into "don't steal, don't murder" type laws, which she doesn't do anyways unless she's really gotta. she stole a fission battery from goodsprings earlier today but it was for ed-e so it balances out to her. and she'd pay in caps if asked about it. ask forgiveness not permission, yanno.

if hypothetically she were to settle in a place that fell under ncr rule she would evade taxes though. fundamentally against it and prefers to spend caps locally

21. How often do they lie and what are the lies?

no he doesn't like any of them. he never wanted kids or wanted to be married and did it because of mormon town pressure (mostly from henry, who he wants to impress/wants approval from always). you get married and you have kids because that's what you do.

he puts on good face in public with the kids and he favors the younger children in public because that what people do, they baby younger children. but he doesn't really put effort into caring for them, especially because he can kind of get away with them "not being his kids" (william is their stepfather).

when elizabeth get babyfied william can't really find it in himself to just ruthlessly experiment on her so he convinces her that it's all for the greater good (eternal life. which he IS doing, but you know how that goes). elizabeth is sort of disillusioned the whole time but is clinging really hard to that belief, that her father really is doing it for good. shes unfortunately a very forgiving person, and very naive.
