3. Tell us about a headcanon you invented for a fic
For my very first stucky fic, Memory of a Kiss, I came up with the idea that Steve and Bucky were exes!
This was partly inspired by the ship raeda from The Owl House, because I had never really seen a pair of exes getting back together again that I had actually enjoyed before. So, mix that concept with the homophobia in the 40s and Bucky’s fierce protection of Steve, I decided it would be a nice dose of angst and a richer backstory. Of course, I also imagine that Steve and Bucky still loved each other very much, even while exes, and that that love is what ultimately had them getting back together during the war! I’ve also never seen this particular headcanon around before, so I think I’m kind of unique in this regard? Which is pretty cool, if true, haha!
17. When you get a new fic idea, what does that look like in your mind? Does it play out like a film? Do you imagine lines of dialogue or a certain moment? Does a character just sit there staring at you?
Oh gosh… A mix of all three, I’ve found!
For example, I’m currently working on an Endgame AU/Fix-It where Steve was the victim of the Snap instead of Bucky, leading to Bucky eventually deciding to take up the mantle of Captain America to honor Steve and cope in a Totally Healthy Way™️. With this fic, I initially got the inspiration after imagining Steve getting dusted in my head like it was a film. I then started getting a bunch of little moments and ideas in my head until it all accumulated into Bucky Cap taking up residence in my mind. He really does just sit there and stare at me!
Unfortunately, I’m having writer’s block for that idea, BUT!! I am also currently writing a much simpler idea with Bucky accidentally getting betrothed to selkie!Steve while they’re kids. For this fic, it’s definitely just a bunch of little moments and lines of dialogue that I’m lowkey trying to string together as neatly as I can, lmao
