But Nick Macco, co-founder of Southtree.com, a company that helps preserve aging home movies and photos digitally, said that casual dress is nearly always accepted at his company.
“We think if we hire great people, they are smart enough to determine how to dress themselves,” he said. “It's human nature to make judgments based on appearance. Building relationships, however, will reveal the real character of someone and the value they provide for any organization.”Â
Five favorite songs by female performers in 2011

I almost completely ignored popular music last year, so although I usually have strong opinions about the Album of the Year, this year I just don’t. I listened to a smattering of good music, though, especially from female performers. Here’s a list of some of my favorite female performances of 2011.
Swell Window—Zee Avi
Zee Avi’s album “Ghostbird” is that saccharine sweet music you’ve been looking to use as the soundtrack to those fast-approaching gloomy windows. The songs on “Ghostbird” are a tad heavy on the ukulele for my tastes, but “Swell Window” is too good of a track not to mention. The song floats peacefully, almost like a children’s round, with an infectious melody that you’ll be singing for weeks. I like the sentiment, too. Essentially, we’re all the same. Or, in Zee Avi’s words, “We’re all riding the same waves.”
