Good morning.

My daughter is writing about Gandhi today. He was so right. Show your strength through non-violent, non-cooperation. We need each other.

Pictured here is a protest in 2017 near the Turkish embassy in London, England. The protesters were demanding the release of human rights campaigner Özlem Dalkıran and other human rights activists who have been jailed in Turkey. Just like Özlem Dalkıran, many human rights defenders are victims of threats, imprisonments, murders, and other forms of repression. 

On the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, take a look at our blog post where we feature a booklet by the organization Front Line Defenders entitled “Workbook on Security: Practical Steps for Human Rights Defenders at Risk”, which is designed to help human rights defenders know how they can preserve their safety.

In 2016, the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) signed a peace deal, ending a conflict that lasted for 52 years. This remarkable achievement promised to bring welfare and prosperity for all, however the Colombian Indigenous groups have not witnessed much improvements in the issues they face.
