I know Iām late but Iāve been trying to spend my time wisely before the semester starts. I think this year I had some more consistent masterpieces and drew more, but this year was a little unbalanced in terms of when my best stuff was drawn. I certainly did some more art studies this year, but I also explored some fandoms I hadnāt before and explored creating some original work! Iām cautiously optimistic about my art journey in 2026
P.S. I know some of these are unfinished, I will hopefully get to them eventually
Spending more time on Webtoon has given me a lot more suggestions on comics to read - Iāll make some lists of recommendations here, just to spread some good words and attention!
Will share more as I read new stuff:
1. Nonesuch, by The Bitsy Artist. I was drawn in by the unique cut-paper-esque artstyle, but got hooked into its rustic horror mindfuckery real fast. Creepy clones, untrustworthy alliances, cool gunplay, and surprising commentary on love and disability. I have DEVOURED it.
2. The Last God of Spring, by Kotopopi and Milena. A sleeping god-king will soon awaken in a post-apocalyptic world, and his militaristic religious order must be ready for his return. Greta and Elias fight for their place in the hierarchy - but what are they REALLY fighting?
3. Sunset Phoenix, by NeverDraws. Immortal crime bosses manipulate their world with magic, and can reconstruct themselves after taking fatal blows - most of the time. When one of them is murdered, all hell may break loose. Itās so freaking stylish - I am WEAK for Valās design.

The title of Mahlerās late work Das Lied von die Erde (āThe Song of the Earthā) is a clear nod to late romanticism. Longstrethās songs are more compact than most Mahler. āBank On,ā the longest on the album, a mini-epic six minutes, with many others clocking in around the two and three minutes mark. There are also minute-long miniatures, such as āSame River Twiceā and āAppetite,āĀ that have time to create an ambience before quickly departing. Romanticism presents as a surface element among a number of disparate musical layers.
Dirty Projectors has long reveled in the jubilantly po-mo, abetted by recording technology to mix mercurial shifts of manner. On previous outings, the quality of Longstrethās songwriting has sometimes been subsumed by the jump cut quality of its presentation. He doesnāt dispose of this practice on Song of the Earth, but the plethora of classical instruments at his disposal are often deployed in arrangements with a deliberate sense of solidity. āGimme Earthā combines orchestra, rock instruments, and puckish singing. A folksy verse is contrasted by a prog chorus, interludes filled with upward string arpeggiated flourishes, and a portentous brass fanfare as its climax. The overlapped vocals on āMore Mania,ā which might have engendered hazier production on a Dirty Projectors release, here are given minimal seasoning, the better to blend with stargaze.
Although Song of the Earth is called a āsong cycle,ā is this entirely accurate? The term song cycle often implies consolidation, one composerās group of settings by a single poet. Song of the Earth is instead a work of assemblage, juxtaposition and accrual. If adopting the designation helps Longstreth to write such compelling music, long live the āsong cycle.ā
