I think my only actual gripe with TADC is how some scenes work fine on their own, but when you put them in the context of the series or even just with other scenes in the episode they donāt reallyā¦ fit together perfectly?
My main example of this is the scene in the finale where JAX approaches Pomni, but pulls away. And Pomni doesnāt pursue it any further. This genuinely doesnāt make sense to me. Because. Pomni?? Pomni lets Jax walk off after being approached??
Pomni, who like 5 minutes before CRIED because all she wanted to do was uplift and help people??? Pomni, who in the episode prior, said āBE here later,ā implying she was aware that Jax wasnāt well? Who even after their fight, still checked on Jax all throughout episode 7??? Why at THIS moment, when Jax is seemingly struggling to reach out, would Pomni suddenly not think anything of it? Youāre telling me she wouldnāt immediately jump at even the slightest hint that she could get her foot in the door??
āI wish I pried a little moreā doesnāt make sense when she isnāt shown prying at all. āI somehow forgotā doesnāt feel like a satisfying justification to me when she (and Zooble) have been shown to check up on Jax for arguably less. It especially feels off to me because throughout 8 and 9, they really hammer in the whole āTogether We are TADC ā angle. You have them all saying lines about being in all this together, about Jax still being one of them despite everything- you have Kinger saying āyouāve become someone they can trust, and theyāll need someone like you in times like theseā to Pomni, and thenā¦ she doesnāt really do anything with this??? (This goes without saying Pomni almost never interacts with Gangle or Zooble so HOW theyāve come to trust her who knows) ((The only person that you can argue she is able to successfully support in the finale is Ragatha))
On its own, the scene of Jax almost reaching out then pulling back again is fine, because likeā¦ that happens- and I think itās consistent for Jax. But for it to work, you have to forget Pomniās prior behavior when it comes to Jax. Itās almost baffling to me.
This is the example Iām using because itās the most fresh, but I feel like thereās points where the show SAYS one thing, but then doesnāt really have anything that illustrates it.
Other smaller examples are like. Pomni saying āMake sure the others are okay, theyāre gonna need youā to Ragatha and then that not being elaborated on at all, or Caine saying āI donāt have as much power as before,ā but thereās no obvious change in his abilities. Or even Pomni saying āI think we should give up on leaving the circus,ā but prior to episode 7 and aside from the 1st episode, there isnāt much focus on them actively trying to leave.
[Is this me saying Pomni was responsible for everything because she didnāt press further? HELL NO. I am talking about what I see as a genuinely frustrating inconsistency. This is from a writing standpoint, not necessarily from a theming/character standpoint]
