I don't think I did posts for the first two books but idc cause I love this series and this was my favorite book.

Pre-Reading Thoughts

Bennett is a master of tense teen thrillers, and the locked-room mystery setup immediately hooked me. Closed-circle games, supernatural twists, and riddles that could kill? I was ready to dive in.

Post-Reading

As I thought… The suspense and puzzle-solving were tight and engaging. The gothic Parisian chateau, combined with the puzzle, made for a tense, atmospheric read.

It surprised me by… The treatment of the allergy scene. Kai has a severe nut allergy, goes into anaphylaxis, uses an epipen, and then seems completely fine afterward. While it makes narrative sense for the locked-room scenario, it perpetuates the myth that an epipen is a total cure—which is dangerous in real life. Not enough to ruin the story, but worth noting. Using the name of the secret society from Young Gothic in a completely unrelated context was probably meant to be a cute injoke, but just kept me on edge waiting for a reveal that didn't come - unless MA is saving that for a potential sequel?
