I find Gwen's refusal to go back in time quite interesting, because Gwen is a broken person, throughout this chapter of their life they have lost almost every single thing they used to care about. You'd think they would jump at the first opportunity to throw away the last year, and start again as who they used to be, but they didn't. Every time they lost another part of who they were, they just had to cling harder to what little they still have left, their friends, their adventure, the acceptance of their loss of purpose, they've changed, by force. now faced with the choice, they can go back to everything they used to want, that used to define them, and they know they would be happier that way, but the version of them that went through this adventure, would have to knowingly give the order, to throw away everything left of who they are, all for a version of them that is dead, and even knowing it would be the better choice, after they've already lost so much they just can't do that
