241 was being almost dragged into the building by Master. She protested, and shook her head, she didnât want to go back there. As they got closer and closer, all the bad memories filled her head.Â
Laying on the floor as she was kicked, being told it would all be over if she could just stand up and go back to the kitchen. She tried, but they just kicked her down again. And again, and again.Â
Silent lunches in the cafeteria. Sometimes they werenât so silent. Sometimes outright chaos erupted. She tried to stay out of it, but there had been a Romantic, and he had been talking to her during the chaos and he wouldnât leave her alone. He tried to drag her away, but a Company guard interfered. They had both gotten in trouble. She had just wanted to eat a nice peaceful lunch, but instead she was whipped for misbehavior.
Being told that she had been sold. All the people who dealt with her telling her this was a good thing. That her purpose in life had been fulfilled. That all she had to do was obey and keep her lessons in mind, and sheâd have a good life. She tried. So hard. But her heart just panicked.
âPlease.â She sobbed as they near the door. âPlease, I canât go back in their, Iâll be good, my memories wonât interfere with my work again, just please donât make me go back.â she gasped.Â
âOh, just shut up. We wonât even be here for the day, youâll be sleeping back in your bed at home tonight, just SHUT UP.âÂ
He shouted. Master shouted at her. 241 fell silent. And let Master pull her through the doors of The Company.Â
They were greeted by a young lady at the front desk. 241 wasnât listening. Being back here was overwhelming. But then she was being pulled down hallways, as Master told her harshly to keep up. Â
She was picked up by her waist, and sat on a medical table. She heard them talking, but couldn't register what they were saying. Until... âWhat are you, stupid? Are you listening to a word Iâm saying?â She didnât know the voice. Just the the person behind it slapped her. 241 flinched away. And looked around the room. Master wasnât there anymore. Just the man in front of her.Â
When she looked at him, he yelled some more. âfor the last time, when did the memories began returning??âÂ
âA-a few months ago.âÂ
âAnd how vivid were they when they started?âÂ
âLike... memories... Like if you tried to remember what you did last night. It would be like that.âÂ
âAre they any different now?â He asked, and she heard a slightly hopeful tone in his voice.Â
â... Yeah. Itâs like Iâm living through them again. As real as you in front of me.âÂ
The manâs hopefulness faded, and he curse loudly, heading to the door and shouting that it was too late for her, they had another defective one, and that someone had better fix the drug soon or theyâd all be out of jobs. With a few choice words in there that made 241 flinched.
He was mad... she didnât mean to make him mad... that must have been the wrong answer. She tried to think of what the right answer would have been, but his words filled her head.Â
âToo late for her...âÂ
âAnother defective oneâÂ
Defective meant useless.Â
Every Boxies worst nightmare.Â
âWait, wait.â She jumped down from the table, and ran out the door. The man was talking to Master, but he stopped and looked at her. He was glaring. âStop, please donât leave me, Iâm just fine I-âÂ
âShut up,â the man said coolly, âclearly you werenât trained well in the first place. You clearly werenât taught to obey well enough. Iâll have to get whoever was in charge of you fired. Shut up, and be quiet like a good little pet, okay?â He didnât expect an answer, he went back to talking to Master.Â
241 barely listened. In fact, she stopped listening after Master confirmed he no longer wanted her. Heard him ask for some of his money back. And informed the Man that heâd be finding a new place to get servants.Â
Too late. Defective. Unwanted. Useless.Â
