You're not a fan of Lyanna, you're a hypocritical hater who diminishes Lyanna's autonomy to praise the irrelevant Elia Martell.
Lyanna's Autonomy, huh. Explain that to me, because I don't understand what you're going on about. Do you mean how she couldn't leave the Tower while she was dying because she had Arthur Dayne and other Kingsguard keeping her in there after their Prince and King were both dead? In the words of my dear friend, "famously autonomy is being a teenage girl in a feudal society who's choices are: abusive cheater or cheater who gets her entire family murdered including herself with like two exceptions" Are you trying to liken her to Cersei, who refused to give Robert children and aborted and only had Jaime's kids? Because not only does that make no sense, you are implying she's dumber than Cersei Lannister. Wild thing to put on her.
How am I hypocritical? Which Man who Kidnapped a Girl am I making Excuses For? Which female character am I rewriting to make a love story?
Or do you mean you think I'm reducing Lyanna too. Because I think of her as a girl full of life with strong convictions who was realizing how fucked the world was and then was taken out too young by it. Rhaelya Shipper put her as this Perfect Wife, how fertile she would be and how she would have been a better mother and wife than Elia, who struggled and how she'd be a Boss Queen with a Sword like Visenya, and how she'd be His Wild "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" Wolf Wife. I think of her in terms of her actual character traits and how she would have been such an interesting person if given the ability to live and not be taken down by the men in her life.
I didn't talk about Elia in my last post outside of calling both Tragedies. And they are, every woman in GRRM's world is a tragedy. The problem is both women exist to be other people's #Dead Wife, only in montages of soft light and forgetting what they were actually like.
And you all reduce her to being Jon's mother. I don't know how to tell you that reducing a girl to Mother and Wife is... misogyny. Me saying she's a cautionary tale at worst and another body fed to the machine of Westeros is much more real and heartbreaking than... Dead Mother.
And that's where her "relevance" comes from, yeah? Because you hold onto the idea that she's Jon's mom, unconfirmed, and that makes Jon's story... better? Again, reducing her to some man's connection. If she is Jon's mother, it isn't gonna matter, Jon's story is firmly in the North, at the Wall, and Beyond. I don't even think he's gonna go below the Neck! But that's what we want, yeah? Prince Jon, Future King, It's what all the fanfictions are about.
But be for real, who mentions her anymore? She's brought up by Ned and Robert but they're dead at the start. Do her nieces and nephews? Does Jon? She's faded out. But Elia? We see her family care about her, sure Lyanna's Tragedy brought out the Rebellion, partly, but in terms of the story, the actual writing? We see Oberyn's love for her, we see Doran's, the Dornish are making moves in her name. They are supporting the Targaryens, not the Starks. Do you know who still mentions her? Her nieces, the Sand Snakes and Arianne, her son, Young Griff, hell even Daenerys thinks about her more, and thats who matters. If we wanna talk Targs and Thrones, Dany is who matters.
And thats what this is right? You wanna bring her up as Jon's mom and how Jon is gonna sit the Throne for his mom and dad. Jon doesn't care about that fuckass Throne, his story is about being a Stark. If he's Targ, it'll die with him. But Young Griff? He's much closer to the Throne than Jon would ever be. But I'm not gonna talk about my thoughts on Dany and her story or Aegon's place.
And so many of you want to believe she'd ever willingly become a mistress who makes bastards and waits for him to divorce his wife or for Elia to die. No one has ever disputed how one of her FEW characters traits is hating men with bastards, so tell me, can you? How do we square that? Did she change her mind because of his pretty face? Did she think she was different? Or do you genuinely believe she thought Rhaegar would instate Poly again. When Maegor with the Black Dread couldn't. What, with a song? Lyanna isn't dumb, unlike Ned, their dad is HEAVILY implied to be both ambitious and hard on his kids. Ned says he's soft for ONLY showing his sons a beheading, implying his childhood was harsher, and Ned's Warding, Brandon's and Lyanna's betrothals to other Lord Paramounts mean he was playing the game. Unlike Ned, who didn't give his kids any betrothals and wouldn't have gone below the Neck without Robert. You think Lyanna is dumb?
I think Lyanna is a teen girl who's learned about injustice and the hardness of the world and is mad and loud about it. She would have loved tumblr and being called an SJW. But sure, she's a pretty princess who only wants to be bred by her husband. She only wants to have kids and swing a sword around only in image and not in battle. If nothing, the nicest way I can think of Lyanna going with him is if he promised he'd make her a Jonquil Darke, female knight to the Queen, and he lied. Because if he didn't, why didn't he outright say, This is my Second Wife! Why hide? Because he planned on overthrowing his dad? Which he dragged his feet on and didn't do. Which he fought in opposition to in the Rebellion? He should have gone to someone to team up, but he fought for his dad's wrongs. Because the Rebellion was about more than Lyanna, it was about a King breaking his Oath of Fealty, but thats a different post.
