Completely brokenhearted by this news. Michael Donovan was such a wonderful VA and an absolutely delightful person. Once when I was young, I wrote him a fan letter because I positively loved Ranma 1/2 and Ryoga Hibiki was my favorite. Michael actually took the time and sent a handwritten multi-page reply back. I couldn't believe it!! Never thought anyone would ever pay attention to me or reply to anything I wrote, especially with something so personal. He expressed such sincere gratitude for my letter to him and graciously answered all my questions. I remember him writing that he was super surprised and amused by the fact I'd recognized him as Eggplant Wizard from Captain N, of all things. From that day, Michael Donovan set the fan interaction standard that I've held every celebrity and industry professional to. No one will ever beat Ryoga Hibiki in my mind.
Over the years, that act of genuine kindness and appreciation stayed with me always. I've thought of Michael and that letter so many times throughout my life. It never fails to warm my heart and remind me good people do exist. Just last week even I was thinking about his letter and wishing I could somehow find it again (my mom threw away a lot of my stuff after I moved out of state, so it most likely fell casualty to that). I'd hoped I'd find a way to contact him again to thank him and tell him how much that letter meant to me. It's truly disheartening that I'll never get the chance, but hopefully the universe was able to somehow transmit my feelings before he passed.
Michael Donovan, thank you so much for sharing your talent and sincere goodness with the rest of the world. Thank you for making an awkward little girl feel happy, heard, and appreciated. You'll be deeply missed.
