That neurodivergent feel when your brain just... deletes patterns? Like, at various times in my life I’ll go to perform a task. I’ll have been doing the task for my entire adult like but when I try to proceed my brain just comes back with: file not found. And I’ll be like, what do you mean? We’ve done this thousands of times? Why did you delete that, brain?
Once I forgot how to hold my pencil. I’m a freakin artist and my brain just scrubbed that overnight and I had to relearn. There was a way we’d tie tags at work that I had repetitively done for three years and it was suddenly impossible because my muscle memory had been deleted. I spent an hour relearning through trial and error because I was too embarrassed to admit to coworkers that I couldn’t do it anymore.
But the latest one has been driving me crazy, because I’ve forgotten how to sleep on my left side. I can sleep on my right side and stomach still. But my muscles don’t know how to sleep on the left anymore. My ear hurts, my neck gets a cramp, my shoulder falls asleep. I can’t understand it. The instinct and muscle memory for how to lay correctly is just gone. And I’ll take obsessive notes about how I’m comfortable on the right but I can’t get it to translate to the left. It’s been months. I’m getting slightly more comfortable each night but it’s a pain in the ass.
