A circa 1900 pickers’ cottage at Double Trouble State Park in Berkeley Township, #NewJersey. Every year, between thirty and forty migrant workers, including family groups, arrived in early September and stayed until Thanksgiving to harvest the cranberry bogs by hand. They would stay in cottages similar to this one. There are three cottages at Double Trouble, plus a bunk house for single workers. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #history #travelblog #travelblogger #blogger #blog #history #ushistory #americanhistory #explorenj #njspots #jerseycollective #journeythroughjersey #historicsite #njstatepark #njstateparks #doubletroublestatepark #berkeleytownshipnj #statepark #architecture #archi_ologie #industry #cranberry #doubletrouble #pinelands #deserve2preserve (at Double Trouble State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/By89G5unEfF/?igshid=6848db2sv08v
Another shot from Hacklebarney State Park in Washington Township and Chester Township, #NewJersey. This is at the park entrance, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in 1937. The park was established in 1924 as Hacklebarney Forest Park Reservation when Aldoph E. Borie (1866 - 1954) donated 32 acres of land to the State of New Jersey as a memorial to his mother, Susan P. Borie, and his niece, Susan Parker Ryerson Patterson. In 1929, he donated an additional 90 acres. The CCC, Company 1268 stationed in High Bridge, added to the park throughout the 1930s. They enhanced the park's network of trails, added water fountains (which still exist but do not work), and built the Park Office in the main parking lot. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #history #travelblog #travelblogger #blogger #blog #history #ushistory #americanhistory #explorenj #njspots #jerseycollective #journeythroughjersey #njstateparks #park #statepark #hacklebarney #hacklebarneystatepark #chesternj #washingtonnj #nature #ccc #civilianconservationcorp #trails (at Hacklebarney State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzZRPFHn7mn/?igshid=32b82a882cks
